I'm trying to get the biggest plant I can in my small tent. I think it's only 36 high? So I'm going to SCROG this of course but my question is can I use a custom pot that encourages roots to grow laterally fatter than deep to space space ? Example below. I want to fold down the sides on a 15 gallon bag still be about 7" high and 19" in diameter. This way the plant will sit lower in the tent and give me more room verticality. Will that work or will the plant not be able to use all the space the pot has horizontally?

Question. Have you considered perhaps going hydro? There is much more ability to work with the roots in this medium rather than in soil. Just a thought.

No. Never crossed my mind. I have no idea how hydro growing works I've always been soil. Bhhuuuttttt! Not a bad idea

nah hydro will take even more space.20L bucket will drain in a day too much work.

what i can say any type of pot you make roots will adapt to it.i can advise you to make a hill a put foil over it roots will push on the top as well if its dark. only autos dont like shallow pots i have heard

So the roots will basically use the foil hill like a wedge to push them out to the sides ?

nah foil is there just soo when they push out they think they still underground if no foil they will dry out and stop growing up.and hill is there to maximase the space dont have to use it.just dont forget a tray under the pot to contain the watering mess

I respectfully disagree as far as the hydro. I have six plants in a 6 gallon tub all doing fine in a 4x4 tent. The roots are looking nice and white with all ladies in week 2 of flower.

I am a soil grower from the start and a recent convert to hydro. Let say this about that, I will never go back to soil! The fungus gnats were one of the main reasons for the switch. Just saying…

I am for sure in there daily. I really enjoy the process of hydro. It has become part of my daily routine. I check ppm everyday along with water levels and temps. It is very Zen checking in on the ladies.

me too but i am interested how often do you refil and how fast do you need to change the ppm

Is 36 all you have or is it 36 to a reasonable distance for your light to not burn stuff up?
If you have to put a 7 inch pot into a 36 inch tent with another 6 inches taken up with a light and another 8 inches to not burn stuff ..........

Thats a nice math problem ya got there. Be a shame if something got burned up.😎

Im currently growing a photo in coco in a 55inch tall tent, 2.2gal pot. Flipped after 5 weeks of veg and it's going to be a really tight fit so i dno if 36 is realistic. Might want to have a bigger tent on hand just in case but who knows, maybe scrog does the trick. You'll have to lst either way.
As for pots, eventually it doesnt really matter, roots spread where they can. Just have to adjust how you water a bit.

Ok, so the refill is being done as needed, which typically is every other day. I do a complete water change every other week. The ppm is done when I change or add water. At this point it has not changed drastically. Figure about three times a week. I am using Cronk (micro, grow and bloom) with much success and Piranha for root microbes.
