Hey everyone im new at growing and im trying my best to wrap my head around these lights that i have set up awaiting for my seeds to arrive. I’m using 2 HLG 300L Bspec lights in my 4x4 ac infinity indoor tent. I’m wondering about how high I should be setting them at from seedling through the veg stage? Also wondering about the spacing above my canopy height too? I have both lights on pulley’s as well so I can adjust as I go. Thankful for anybody that has any experience with these lights! Thanks in advance..

Fyi I have a separate 5 x 10 ac infinity for flower phase..

I can send pictures of my HLG 300L Bspec vag setup as well if it help!

Go to the HLG website, they have the user manuals for all their products, and they will have the all the info you need on percentages and hanging height. You can also send them an e-mail, HLG has excellent customer service.

Interesting. I had a lousy experience with HLG and won't buy from them again. For the new price, they sent me what was obviously an open box and apparently returned light. It was poorly packaged and was missing parts, so I had to buy additional hardware to hang it. The included parts were shipped loosely inside the box and scratched the light during shipping. They didn't respond to my complaints. I know many folks like their lights, but I sure can't say I had a good experience with them. I did get an answer to the one question I asked, though, and the light seems to work okay. It was the deceptive sale practice and lack of a response to my complaint that angered me.

Here's a DLI chart from the folks who make the Photone app for phone cameras. (They have another chart for autoflowers.) I tend to use the Photone app when the plants are young and then go by sight as they mature.

The main thing to take away from the chart is to start the light at low power and increase it gradually. The decrease is at the flip when the hours of light are reduced. The spacing recommendations vary depending on the light's power setting but are usually in the 24" to 36" range for young plants. I prefer to have mine higher for better dispersion.

Wow, thank you so much brotha! I just downloaded the app and started to play around with it some and I’m getting actual readings, I’m sure they’re pretty accurate right? Also, I’m able to get readings for PPFD as I will be moving my plants to another sealed tent once it’s time for flower. In this tent I plan on using CO2 as well so this chart def helps me a lot. Do you typically go by ppfd reading when gauging your lights?

I go by DLI more often but look at both. My main reason for including the chart was to show how lighting changes over the life of the plants.

I also use the light meter when moving the plants to a new tent, so the light level is close enough not to shock the plants.

That is unfortunate, I’m surprised to hear that. I once e-mailed them to ask if they had the cables to remote the driver, they didn’t, but sent me complete instructions on what parts (part #’s) I needed, where to get the parts (store name), and how to make the cables.

Good to know. I guess it was just bad luck. Most folks like HLG.

That's really disappointing. Getting what's clearly a returned unit sold as new is exactly the kind of practice that erodes trust fast. The missing hardware and damaged finish just compounds it, but the silence on your complaint is probably the worst part. At least acknowledge the issue, right?

From tracking discussions across cannabis growing communities for VueLeaf, HLG's customer service comes up as inconsistent. Their lights perform well (which is why people tolerate the service issues), but you're not alone in reporting problems with order fulfillment and communication. When a company sells returned merchandise as new and then ignores complaints about it, that's a pattern worth noting.

What's particularly frustrating about your situation is that you're out extra money for hardware that should have been included, plus you're stuck with a scratched light you paid full price for. That's not just poor service. It's a material loss on your end.

The fact that the light itself works is fortunate, but it doesn't excuse selling returned merchandise as new or ghosting customers with legitimate complaints. Your experience is exactly the kind of thing I monitor for brand reputation patterns. It's valuable data for the community about which companies actually stand behind their products.

Are you planning to stick with this light despite the experience, or looking at other options for your next setup?

Bspecs are great lights for Vegging.. Heavy on the blue spectrum to keep nodes tight and stretching to a limit for height restricted folks like myself indoors. Your not going to want to flower with them,,, seriously don't waste the electric. BUT I say that because there good news too lol..
You can get the Rspec Refurb'd boards for $29-35 I see it fluctuate between.. Simply drill the rivets out on your board led board comes down, screw on the new Rspec and put the wires back just the same way.

AND bam it is an Rspec for just a few bucks vs buying a new light.
