I'm interested in the new 3 bar light from Spider Farmer the SE4500
But then looking at some videos I'm noticing that there is no 8-ft cord included to relocate the driver to outside of your tent
Why did spider farmer do this?
Didn't their previous 4 bar model include the 8-ft cord for relocating the driver?
Does spider farmer offer a cord so that you can locate the driver outside of the tent?
Unless that driver on this new SE4500 3 bar edition puts out zero heat and I don't think that's possible so it baffles me that they have no explanation for that

I have that exact light arriving within an hour or so by Fed Ex that I purchased directly from Spider Farmer. From what I recall, you're correct that it has a short(ish) cord to connect the driver to the lights. I'll post back when it arrives and I get it set up. I do remember reading somewhere recently (sorry, was a little stoned at the time and can't recall where) that we can get an aftermarket extension with the same connections but lacking the locking mechanism (internal nubs that interlock) however a bit of electrical tape will keep them well connected through rising/lowering and moving around issues.

Agreed, though, it is a bit of a set back. The claim is that it puts out very very minimal heat but says it's dissipated through the aluminium heat sinks. To me, that means it's releasing that heat back into the tent if the driver is located inside the tent. Confusing? You bet!

Anyway, I'll post back later today with more info on what, exactly, comes with the package, cord lengths, etc.

Cheers,

BA.

Okay, so the light came in this afternoon. You are correct, the length from the light to the driver is only about 3' in length and no extensions come with the package. It does have a connector around the middle of it, so it's just a matter of finding the right extension cord that fits the sockets. It's a 2-pin connection but has a strange Y separator. As for heat, I've been running it for a bit now, just trying to get the tent all dialed in (and it's going to take me another day sans beers and pot to do so, I imagine, but in my defense there was a hockey game on tonight...) but honestly, it's not putting off very much in the way of heat so far. I've been running it for around 2 hours now at 50% and the driver is still quite literally cold to the touch. Not slightly warm, not tolerable, but actually cold! I'm sure after 18 hours at 80% or so it'll garner some heat, but I'm honestly shocked at how cool the system is running. My heater has to keep kicking in to bring it up to 77F, so take from that what you will.

Anyway, just thought I'd follow up and please, if you find an appropriate extension cord, let me know! While it's seeming like a "cool" light it sure would be ideal to situate the driver outside the tent. Just adds that extra little bit of control over the environment.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers,

BA.

I found this on eBay
But you need to know what type prong comes with that new light that you're getting so whenever you do get your light please let us know whether it's an M28 or M19 that way I'll just order mine before I get it thanks to you LOL

So the 2 prong M19 is what we need!
One more question though, actually a couple, did you order that straight from spider farmer? And if you did order it from spider farmer did it come in discreet packaging? I was going to order one from Amazon but they couldn't guarantee discrete packaging with their shipping plus I found out if you order it direct from spider farmer you don't have to pay tax plus you get a big discount!
Way better deal than Amazon!

I looked that one up and from the second image it definitely looks like the connection. I've emailed Spider Farmer asking them about an extension for that light, and they pretty well always get back to me by the next morning. When they do, I'll let you know here what they say. If they sell an extension for it, hopefully it doesn't violate any warranty. If they don't, I've asked if they can tell me the specific information I need to find the right product. Either way, I'm sure I'll have an answer from them sometime tomorrow or Monday morning at the latest.

Cheers,

BA.

Edit:

In a moment of non-stoned clarity (I was busting up a nug, to be honest) I realized I should just go and check if there's any markings on the connectors. Turns out, there is! It's an M19 connector. It's clearly stamped on the plastic body.

Yes I really appreciate it getting back with me regarding spider farmer getting back with you because I'm not having that much luck I placed a couple emails to them and haven't heard anything back in a couple days
I did hear somebody on another forum mention something about the warranty could be void but if that's the case I can't believe that spider farmer doesn't actually sell the extension cords themselves and I have looked all over their website to try to find it with no luck
And regarding the length of the cord the guy says 6 ft is a popular size although they come in all kinds of different sizes but if there's a 3 ft extension off of the driver like you mentioned then I would think a 6 ft extension would be plenty long for any 2x4 grow tent wouldn't you?
I'm really surprised that nobody has gotten on YouTube and done a video about this dilemma!

I ordered it directly from the Spider Farmer website. Unfortunately when I did, it was a "Pre-order" as they were out of stock at the time. However, that's the one here in Ontario (Mississauga) so who knows about other outlets they have. It came shipped by Fed Ex in basically a plain brown cardboard box. I paid $370.99 CAD for the light from them and got the GSS controller for another $49.99. A lot cheaper than Amazon, to be sure! But I waited almost a month for the delivery, so it is what it is. Also got the AC10 smart power strip, both arrived today.

Here's pics of the box the light came in. Quite discreet, as you can see.

I hear ya! I searched high and low for a video about relocating the driver for this specific model, and nada. I guess because it's their new version, simple "unbox and review" videos haven't quite gone that in-depth (I'd say I sense a great "influencer video" opportunity there, but I'm a realist...I'm way too fugly for Youtube and I'm good with that).

The reality is, even if it voids the warranty, a good quality cable with M19 connectors should outlast the light itself so it's a moot point. What it boils down to (no pun intended) is heat. Is it worth taking a basically risk-free venture and placing the driver outside the tent, thereby negating the heat issue, vs voiding the warranty which is something most of us never have to take advantage of during the limited time it's in force? (Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey, anyone?).

What I can say is the light is the perfect fit for my 2x4 tent. Was dead easy to hang, has a fantastic mounting system imho (4 outside corners that the metal hooks go right through at a slight angle) and the ratchets that came with it are good quality. TONS of light coming off it, and the whole thing was something like 14 lbs, driver included.

For cord length, if an additional 6' doesn't help, how big is your friggin' tent??? 😂🤣🍻 I know for me that'd be perfect as I have a small table set up right beside my tent that hold my GGS controller, my Vivosun h05 humidifier and also the filter end of my exhaust system. I mounted it outside for max. head room, as it's only a 60" high tent.

Anyway, glad our little trip down the rabbit hole came up with a solution to both our (identical) problems! Not too often that happens so quickly, in my experience.

Cheers,

BA.
