You should see something at about 5 days. Healther seeds maybe earlier and older seeds longer....
I usually drop mine in a shot glass of 6.2 PH water (many use spring water) for 18 - 24 hours before going to paper towel method.
Research these methods on google for several different variations and details based on user preferences.
Here is one of many

And another

Usually 36-48 hrs. Give or take. Then 2 days to sprout after planting

I'd say more like 18-36 hours with easy fresh seeds direct on wet kitchen roll in a zip bag in room temp
But older seeds or certain seeds can take much longer.
If planted directly in soil the depth has a lot to say.
But rule of thumb always work. Both with seeds and seeds with tap:
Cover with soil one to two times the size of the seed. With weed it's like 4-5 mm

Seeds can be tough to get right. They are delicate and very sensitive to over watering. My latest technique seems safe.

First, I drop the seeds into water, for no more than 12 hours. This is to soften up the shell and get things started. Going too long here risks drowning the seed. Move out of the water at 12 hours even if no sign of sprouting yet.

Move into lightly-dampened paper towels, being absolutely sure the seeds can still breath a bit and aren't just drowing in a paper-lined puddle. The problem I've had here is the paper towels drying out completely overnight. Add several paper towel for a bit of water buffer.

Once the root is poking out of the seed about twice as far as the seed is round, put it carefully (with tweezers) root-down into a Jiffy pot, and cover it no more than 1 seed depth with a bit of the Jiffy pot. Don't overwater now. This is a critical stage of growth, and it is a lot safer to go slow and careful here than rush things.
