So on the weekend, I did an extraction on approx. 2Lb trim and kief.
I used 6000ml 99.9% IPA to extract with two washes. I normally filter the initial extraction thru DE to winterize and remove fine plant particulate. I vacuum filter using a circulating vacuum pump like this one.
When finished filtering and before I shut the pump off, I disconnect the vacuum hose from the Buchner funnel to prevent siphoning. Well, for some fucking reason, I shut the pump off before I disconnected the hose. Water was sucked from pump and into the solution. I normally keep batch sizes to 112g just for that reason; in case of a fuck-up.
So now I think the extracted solution is totally fucked. With that in mind, I carried on processing the batch as normal. I gave it a carbon treatment of 40g and filtered carbon out thru DE. Evaporated the IPA from solution with a rotovap. I ran it in the rotovap at same vacuum press. and temp as usual.
The end product looks and tastes fine. The oil does not look contaminated at all.
So this is my to question to those with chemistry knowledge:
Given the facts that the concentrate looks fine and IPA and water are miscible, is it possible the 99.9% IPA acted as a desiccant, absorbed the contaminating water, and took it with it during evaporation?
