I'm thinking of plopping some Auto seeds outside. Should I germinate first or should I just plot my seeds in the dirt? Anybody got an opinion on it. I've always germinated before I planted my seeds, but I've never gone outside without a pot. Give me some opinions please

I guess it depends on if you feel lucky.......
Well do ya?
2 inches of spring rain will wash away most plant seedlings. That's why most veggies for gardens are clones for 40 years now. Hell the only veggie seeds I got are herloom tomatoes and I still start em indoors.
Outside starts depend to much on weather for my opinion.

Seconded

I've thought about it myself. But I can barely keep track of em when I put then planters starter and have been know to lose em just to find them a couple weeks later in my wife's cabbage. I'm sure I'd lose em in the garden.

My row crop seeds I can handle. Maybe that's the ticket? hmmmm

I even used to use clones for corn cause the early spring was just a mess. When I did popcorn for the Boy Scouts we hand casted 30 lbs of seeds and then after sprouting the boy scouts cleaned em up into rows. Not possible for me to attempt, that all the labor was done by the pack.

Germinating first just proofs your seeds, Once they sprout you know what you have to plant. Once sprouted and planted I'm 99.999% sure they'll grow.

Are you talking Clones or sprouts?

Im with the others on weather. Im not a versed auto grower though. But Iโ€™ve seen some spring time shizzle smoke gardens! Are you able to throw a little netting over it? : ) โœŒ๏ธ

Thanks everybody. Just got them started. I've never done just one seed. I've always had a backup just in case that didn't start, but this time we're trying one of each. I've got one strawberry cough, one sticky mango and one moonberry pie I usually do the old fashioned way paper towel baggie. Put it in the dirt for 72 hours whisper to it. Please grow

Yes sprouts. LOL
I thought so but I wanted to be sure because they do have apomictic corn seeds now but they ainโ€™t at Loweโ€™s or Walmart or your local garden supply shop.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I think the autos prefer to be germinated indoors and give them a good start then put them outside weather permitting. I've done many autos that way. These are autos from last summer grow.

I dropped two autos in an earthbox sitting in the backyard. One made it. ๐Ÿ˜
