Hey everyone first time grower here been lerking for a couple months moving around here and a few other sites for cultivation trying to learn the process and dos and donts. Let’s just say we’re all potheads around here not that the process hasn’t been hard but it definitely hasn’t been the easiest as there’s so much to learn from seeds, soils/ hydro/coco, nutrients lights air ppm ec ph knowing how “hard” or “soft” water is and so on and so forth and that’s not even started with growing conditions , co2 humidity temps ppfds. Let me just say I got a new respect for growers it’s very tedious at times (to learn anyway maybe one day I won’t feel the same). I’ll stay away from the lighter stuff cause i do tend to rift and rant when im excited about something. Here’s a few info bits on my grow right now. I got a 3x3x5 tent. Went with 4 WW autos, in 3 gallon smart pots. (I’m starting to realize 4 is a bit too much for the space I have but I will stay away from any techniques on this first grow as far as pruning bending sogs on and on, I’m currently in about week 2 of veg, I’ve gone crazy everyday writing down everything I put in and comes out as far as ph ppm ecs. The tent says around a constant 71-78 degrees humidity from about 50-65. Growing in coco/ perlite 70/30 mix, using general hypnotics nutrient line, one thing I do notice that’s been driving me a mad is the runoff ph, ph I try to go in around 5.2-5.5 it was coming out at about 6.9 I’ve gotten it down to 6.6 6.7 so far. Out of the four plants one seems to be going down. I’ve read up on aquas coco post, 90 percent moisture is almost impossible for me but I’m constantly trying to get it to about 80 which has been consistent. My thing is 3 of them look at least decent and there all getting the same amount of water/nutrients I’m starting to notice a few things that I think are nutrient deficiency (tips starting to look a bit curled). I’ll cut this here before I write a book, I have values of everything from the last two weeks I’ve cut back a bit to take readings once or twice a week or when stuff is looking bad cause it’s just a bit much daily, any thoughts or opinions are appreciated. Happy growing!! (Btw I’ve taken the wood popsicles sticks out as it seemed the marker mark was bleeding into the soil at feedings)

Welcome to the farm! Looking good so far, don't sweat the small stuff and fuck with them too much and they'll be fine! Runoff pH will have you chasing your tail, make sure it's correct going IN every day and you're good.

Your first 3 bladed leaves are just emerging now, so seedling stage is ending and veg is just starting. There's no deficiencies I can see. The curling is normal wonky young cannabis plant behavior.

If you're in bklyn, NYC tap water is amazing with GH flora trio. Use the medium feed schedule and you're good, no calmag necessary. If you do ever suspect a Ca or Mg issue just increase your micro a little.

If your room is at 80% the pot level will be over 90%. Found this out with a cube sensor a few years back. Especially with the sides of the pot so high up it sets up a microclimate at pot level.
Just like me on my first few grows you are trying to control stuff to the point where it will cause problems. As G95 mentioned chasing pH is not going to work.
Coco requires the PH to be steered. Just like EC/PPM
Your exit numbers will reveal trends of up/down/steady and the responses will reinforce or correct these issues.
Hopefully you are going to plan for multiple fertigations during the run daily as coco loves that.
Good luck with your grow!😎

Good Day 95,
I was taught to PH as follows

If runoff pH is…

  • 5.5-6.5 pH – in the right range, no changes needed.
  • Less than 5.5 – provide next watering at pH 6.5
  • More than 6.5 – provide next watering at pH 5.5
and to use cal-mag through the whole grow.

It was the only time I grew in Coco-coir/perlite only and used the flora trio. I pulled about 22 oz on that grow in a 4x4. It was my first grow and I followed a youtube grower by the name of "From seed to stoned". I also used well water which may have made a huge differance. Im a living soil grower now but still have gallons of the flora trio so was intertaining the thought doing a few more runs in the future with it.

To make a long story short and not hijack this thread any more than I have, do you think I should also follow the same advice on my next coco/flora trio grow with my water?

If you don’t want to screw with fighting with nutrients all the time go on Amazon and look up California super soil mix it plant and forget it the stuff does work!

If you're asking my advice regarding pH? Yes. I always target 6 going in no matter what comes out. What you were taught sounds more like DWC bucket management to me, where you have natural drift to manage. With coco, we reset our "bucket" every day. So if my runoff number is not what I want it to be, high or low, all I have to do is run more solution through it to get back to where I want.

And long story short, when you reset every day pH coming out the bottom doesn't matter, it's the EC you have to keep an eye on.

And you should only use calmag if you need to.

I was going to comment on the conflation issue between dwc hydro and coco hydro but did not want to step out of my for sure know this lane of cannabis.
That's rich how even different hydro systems can have the issue that coco/soil growers have.

Thanks glad to be here! Yeah as I go more crazy looking into info this is the just of what I see don’t go crazy trying to perfect everything. Okay so the bit of weirdness is just normal. Also very interesting about the water as I have been adding the calmag every feeding. I’ll change to med as I been at low feed schedule to try it out, thanks for the feedback!

I realized when I sat down one night and was just absolutely drained and asked myself if I really wanted to put this much time into making myself crazy then seen multiple posts saying down drive yourself crazy just stay in range. I haven’t planned auto fertigation it kind of scares me as I’m not home most days 12-14 hours and it scares the shit out of me to come home to a pile of water one day I just need to plan it out right and look into options any suggestions are always welcome, and thanks for the feedback much appreciated!

hijack bro info is always good I don’t mind, good luck on the grow!

I’ll look into it next time, when I was doing research I read a lot that coco is beginner friendly so I went that route to start off.

Yea one thing i figured out was, don’t chase my tail by doing to much.😳
Same here now imma let it be a bit more lax and go crazy if stuff looks like it’s getting bad.

Look, I’m not bragging at all but my heavily worked over time and mixed compost does the same. There are others with very close to my mix reporting the same. So, what he’s saying could be 100% correct. This kind of soil just makes you scratch your head wondering why the plants always look and grow so good with little to no intervention. But hey, I’m not complaining.

Morning farmers! Here’s a little weekly update, 1 2 and 3 are looking great with 2 looking like the best so far (I’m guessing just genetics) 4 is looking like she’s coming along but something is eh, not sure what it is but should I pull of the leaves or let them be for now till they die out more? Any opinions suggestions or just comments are always welcome hope everyone’s having a good grow so far!

I have had 2 plants that did that.
One was bugs but it was much smaller. No sticky traps present to check
Second one had no reason. Krinkle went to 3rd level and I culled it. No root issues and soil was fine even did a slurry test.
Genetic lottery sometimes comes out bad.
Hell my own genetic lottery gave me a hole in my heart that had to be repaired.

Look for bugs smell for moldy funk.
Edit:
I do remember a grower chiming in on my post after the fact and he said I should have let it ride as it looked hormonal and prolly would have sorted after a certain growth point was reached. 🧐🤔

Yeah that’s what I was told, imma leave it till the weekend and investigate a bit more but everyday it looks better and better so hopefully it’s okay, if not just a stepping stone of learning no biggie

Morning farmers!! I was gonna wait till Monday but the growth on these are insane on these ladies it’s exciting. Here’s some pics and I’ve laid off trying to control everything as far as Ecs ppms and stuff like that I’m more focused on what’s going in and how they look. I’ve also spilt feedings from once a day to twice and also looking into some drip irrigation systems. (The plant that was looking off is looking wayyyy better now.)
