hello everyone,

this is my first time posting in this forum and I hope you guys can help a newbie out.

Recently, I've been having sick plants and I can't figure out what is the issue so I'm hoping for advice on how to resolve the issue.

This is my first time at this and I settled on the DWC because it was cheaper to start my first cycle.

I'm currently using a T-5 for vegging and its currently day 20. About 7 days ago my plants started showing signs of some sort of lockout as the fan leaves were showing signs of deficiency and decay.

I attributed the issue to low PH because for whatever reason, my PH pen was off by a whole point on the higher end when I got it from the store. So instead having a range of 5.8 to 6.3 like I thought i was having, my plants were actually growing in the 4.8 to 5.3 range.

I only found this out when a buddy of mine brought over his new PH pen just to test it out.

So I flushed out the buckets and gave it only PH water for a day, and on the following day I resumed my normal feeding schedule.

Things started to resume back to normal again as the plants were showing good signs of recovery. However, in only 5 days things have gotten worse than it was before and now im totally stumped as to what to do.

My ph is around 5.8 to 6.3. My ppm is rough 600 and overall room temp has been averaging 79 degrees with little fluctuation.

I'm using advance nutrients 3 parter with some additives like cal mag and mother grow tea with some hygrozyme.

The only difference in feeding schedule from day one to day 14 is the addition of hygrozyme cause my buddy suggested that I use it to prevent root rot.

My roots aren't entirely slimy nor does it have any foul smell to it. it is however not as white as I would like to be but I'm not sure its because of the discoloration from the nutrients or its actually root rot.

Going to post a bunch of pics and I hope we can find a way to save my girls. Any tips/feed is greatly appreciated guys

oh one last thing to ask, is there such thing as too much air? I'm currently using the eco 7 among 12 five gallon buckets. Thought I'd just throw that info out there in case it has an affect on the plants

I`ve done DWC for moms for a while bro. They definitely aren`t liking something. I`d back off any additives and go with the Advanced nutes only for now. And get that PH pen calibrated. Sometimes less= more. Also you stated the temps 'averaged' 79.....how hot are they getting in the upper range? Even though air temp can be 79 the water temp could be over 80 and cause some issues. As far as your air pump goes....no you really can`t have too much 02 going in there. If anything I would say those roots are lacking a bit on 02. My advice is keep the temps down....get the ph stable....and ditch the additives for a while. Best of luck.

i made a simplest as you can dwc for cheap without even thinking and my plant came out fine...

just use roots excelerator and use declorine water and you'll be fine

i will tell you though that i didn't like it and later transplanted it into a 5 gallon smart pot with botanicares earth coco mix. my plant looks fucking great now and that is a much better system than what i had.

my simple thoughless dwc set up was a bucket, a small pump, 1 dripper, one net pot, hydroton.. dats about it.. stay around 500 ppms for mothers

BlueIndian,

on the high side, the room temp was 83 degrees during the day and around 75 at night.

I left a digital thermometer inside the bucket and the highest it ever got was 76 degrees.

Since you have lots of experience with DWC, how do you normally go about refilling your buckets.

do you mix each bucket individually or you make a batch of stronger nutes and water them down to the correct amount of ppm?

I've always mix my nutes in a bucket of water at a higher concentrate and then pour a portion of it into each bucket and top off with R/O water.

Not sure if its wrong to mix nutes this way, as I do know we're not suppose to mix nutes without the presence of water. This method is much quicker and easier for me to get the right dosage of nutes for each bucket.

But yeah ill definite just use basic nutes for now and see how that goes.

should i trim/cut off all those infected leaves or just leave them alone and hope for the best

I`ve only done DWC for a couple of moms at a time so I changed out the buckets individually or mix a 5 gal bucket and split it between the 2 and add tap water to make them roughly half strength on the nutes. If you are running say 10 buckets you might want to get a 55 gal barrel to mix it all at once and then work from there. By just having moms in DWC I really can`t say much in that department other than veg.....but as far as your issue definitely watch the temps and ph.

Honestly...i don`t know about the tea and hygrozyme that`s being added. some silicates can make your ph drop and those 2 combined may make it worse. Almost looks like a magnesium problem with the foilage but could be from too much additive or ph. Keep it simple nute wise and change out the water regularly is best I can offer today.

gonna take your advice and mix the nutes in a large container to avoid any further headaches.

I went ahead and changed out the buckets and cleaned it out as well. Replace with lower ppm nutes that contains less additives and other stuff. Lets see how it goes in the next few days
