NEW YORK -- The Obama administration has overseen a sharp increase in the number of people subjected to warrantless electronic surveillance of their telephone, email and Facebook accounts by federal law enforcement agencies, new documents released by the American Civil Liberties Union on Friday revealed.

im sure regardless of who was sitting in the oval office this would be happening.

welcome to america, where government is a commercial enterprise and its customers are enslaved.

bet money all the research is being outsourced to companies... what do you wanna bet someone on capital hill is banking huge off of it?

911 gave the government more reason to do what they love to do spy on the people!

If I had to have my rights shit on by the Patriot Act--I'd at least like it done to me by an adminstration that is able to deliver on the promise it made:

1. Kill Terrorists
2. Prevent Terrorist Attacks

So far as I can tell, Obama is delivering on that promise about one million percent better than Bush did. Do I hate the policy? Yes--however I accept that things are the way they are for a reason. If you haven't done anything against your country (regarding violent intentions), then you have nothing to worry about.

Ultimately I think we'll see the Patriot Act repealed if the mideast ever stabilizes (but who knows if/when that will happen).

Tell that ^^^ to these guys, Oh wait, you can't because they're dead, killed by terrorists, nevermind. The rights of Americans are being violated on mutiple levels...

there is terrorism towards anything and everything in life.

and not to be a dick but how many other people in the world have died due to terrorist attacks? i hate it when people single out americans, we're all fuckin humans, these 4 are a minute fraction of the whole problem, yet because they're white and american it sends a message?

nah, i see the message, and its tons bigger than a few white dudes.... but if laws ALWAYS worked none of us would smoke herb???

ultimately its the thought that counts, and personally i agree with squiggly if you are on that side of the fence ..... then shit i dont know what to say other than tough LOL

Thanks for supporting my point bro... Terrorists kill indiscriminately. Military personal, citizens, embasadors, black, white, muslim, Libyan, Samalian, take your pick. It is Not just A few white dudes as you put it and No, your not being A "Dick" when you say people are being killed by terrorists all over the world, you are making my point for me. The statement I read says "Prevent Terrorist Attacks" And my statement still is what I stated "The rights of Americans are being violated on mutiple levels" That is what the post "Is" about right? You are the one singling people out. "White Dudes" as you put it... Last time I walked out my front door all americans were not White Dudes... The ones killed happened to be, What difference does their color make? I think killing them could be considered A small violation of their rights? They are Americans reguardless and you will never know if they smoked weed or not before they had to start piss testing (can you say rights violation?) for their Gov. job... Have A Great Day :D

While your semantic argument is noted, I was referring to the terror plots that have been disrupted on his watch--of which there have been many. There are always going to be people who are able to slip through the cracks. Terrorists do attack indiscriminately, yes, but this isn't so much a "point" as it is an altruism. Everyone knows this. It doesn't prove that Obama is a shithead in any way. I was personally impressed with what has been done under Obama so far as these disruptions were concerned, but it didn't really impress me for Obama's sake (because he doesn't really control this down to the wire).

Obviously there's no question on his dedication to actually tracking bad dudes down and blowing them up with missiles, though. He's been doing that pretty awesomely since becoming president--and he does have a good amount of control over what's happening there--he also did have ultimate control over the raid that took bin Laden down. Say what you will, but that shit was ballsy and it paid off--I give him credit for that call, as we all should (and history ultimately will).

If you go back through history, this is the stuff the president is supposed to do--big international crisis of a military nature. The greatest presidents around have all been wartime presidents (cold war included)--and there is a REASON for that. It's because when it comes to decisions in those times, the president is who makes the call. When it comes to economic policy and what not it's supposed to come to congress ultimately.

I grade the president on how he protects the country, because that is his ultimate job whether other Americans are aware of it or not. I think he should have every method to do that available to him--he's fighting a losing war as you rightly point out. I thought the same for Bush and supported the patriot act under him, it should be noted.

I do question how long this sort of thing should go on for--but I think in the immediate sense it's probably smart until we see some stabilization following the Arab Spring.

Very well said squiggs, can't argue that... From the point of view as you explained it, I totally agree...

One small detail I overlooked...
Some labeling Hasan terrorist
Witnesses say Hasan jumped on a desk and cried out, “Allahu Akbar!,” Arabic for God is great. They said he mowed down GIs with two handguns and extended-round clips.
Thirteen died.

If it walks like A Duck and Quacks like A Duck... Where are the Civil and Moral rights of these soldiers and their Families under an Administration that refuses to call something what it is because it contradicts the picture they paint, which is the threat of terrorisim is defeated with the death of Osama binLaden?
