Can I add Potassium Bicarbonate to my Bt solution?

I'm spraying my outdoor plants with a Bt solution I mix from dry powder about once a week. They just started flowering. This is to keep caterpillars from getting a foothold in the developing buds. Was just reading about how foliar application of potassium bicarbonate can help prevent botrytis...

so my outside girls will have to die

Only in America. Sorry, friend, that's f--cked up and you are not alone in that situation. Hopefully we get our collective sh-t together soon and fix that along with all the other problems dragging us down.

    can't diagnose this watering issue

Unfortunately the ground is mostly rock. Can I stick something thin into the soil without disturbing the roots? Or maybe tie some poles to the outside of the bag. Need to do something--remnants of Isaias will be here tomorrow night. Probably just torrential rain but could be some gusty winds...

    can't diagnose this watering issue

Thanks for the advice--I will definitely do that this week. What do you suggest using? Don't want to mess up her roots by jabbing something big down in there. Bamboo pole maybe? You think one would do it and just tie the main branches to it?

    can't diagnose this watering issue

Just a quick update. Been giving her 2 gallons each morning as the hot dry weather continues. She seems to be using it right up. As far as I can tell pretty much full recovery. Thanks again for help. Hoping I can cut back to every other day or even every third day, maybe if I add some mulch and...

    can't diagnose this watering issue

Took a look yesterday afternoon, tried lifting the pot, definitely didn't feel heavy and the ground beneath was stone dry. Gave it 2 gallons, then came back this morning and gave it another 2 gallons. It looks a lot better. I think it got terribly dry when I was away the week before last and...

    can't diagnose this watering issue

Well looking at the radar this afternoon not sure we're going to get thunderstorms after all. At least the clouds are easing the heat a little bit although it's muggy as hell today. I'll do a quick check on those plants later today and see how they look. Will bring a couple gallons with me, if...

    can't diagnose this watering issue

I went to put an old white flannel sheet around it this evening. Actually looked noticeably better--but still a few droopy leaves. Soil felt slightly moist but my no means wet. Foliar spray is a good idea...funny you should mention kelp because I added some kelp meal and compost topdressing...

    can't diagnose this watering issue

No room in the garden. This is a bit of an experiment anyway in using smartpots. I thought you could grow a plant out for a season in a 7g smartpot and it wouldn't get rootbound--just only get so big. Is that not true?

    can't diagnose this watering issue

I can do that. It's shaded during the hottest part of the afternoon--mostly gets morning and mid-day sun. But could still be getting that rootball hot. She was looking terrific until last week. Need to recover before flowering begins soon.

    can't diagnose this watering issue

OK, thanks for confirming that. I just don't know how to read these smart pots. Have heard they dry out wicked fast in the heat. I'll try waiting 5-6 days and have a look to see if she perks up. You think 2 gallons is enough to water thoroughly?

    can't diagnose this watering issue

Bear with me please, first year growing. Have an Orange Blossom Special plant from Greenpoint in a 7g smart pot. 15 weeks since germination from seed. In Coast of Maine Stonington soil mix, I've added some Coast of Maine Stonington Plant food about 4 weeks ago since it likely used up the...

    First Time Grower Seeks Advice

End of week 2 update: growth rate really accelerating. There's a youtube video where the woman at Coast of Maine who came up with this Stonington Mix soil says that although she starts her seeds in it the new seedlings are a little "overwhelmed" by the rich soil and therefore start slowly...

Makes sense. They had a nice afternoon in the sun outside yesterday. Here's some shots after I brought them back in for the evening, basking in the late afternoon sun in the windowsill:

    First Time Grower Seeks Advice

So 5 days later I have 21 out of 24 seeds germinated--still hoping the other 3 pop up soon, although it's been almost a week now since planting. For some reason the Orange Blossom Specials are being really slow. Today I've got them outdoors for the first time, nice warm day (61 degrees F) with...

    First Time Grower Seeks Advice

Seeds arrived yesterday. Planted 4 each of 3 strains in some Stonington mix in seedling trays. They're sitting on the windowsill right now at 69 degrees (it's 40 outside and supposedly snowing tonight!). Can't wait to see some action--will post an update when they germinate. Hopefully just a...

    First Time Grower Seeks Advice

Seeds are on their way. Can I germinate these in a windowsill? Or outdoors (I'd bring them in at night)? What are your thoughts on growing in the ground vs. container? Not looking for massive yield necessarily, just for personal use and sharing with friends. Native soil a bit acidic, but I...
