I use a similar method, and only water when the gauge is between the DRY and the MOIST, like number 3 ou 4. Bellow 2, too dry, not good. Don't let it get so dry. Above 5, still moist, so not necessary. So the hot spot should be around 3 or 4.

Do you mean cover the top 1/2inch of soil, then proceed to water as usual? Or water first, then cover the soil? Cover it after every water? Or add the product to the feeding water? What's the best way to go about using the diatomaceous earth? Thanks.

Well, I have four plants in my tent at this moment. And every new grow also comes out with white-yellowish tips. I'm growing four White Widows (indica/sativa hybrid). As the leafs keep growing, most white tips disappear, then the leafs get all green. But some of those leafs (i'd say about 4%...
