Don't need to be exclusive soil, @Captspaulding. I've used both coir and rockwool in the past, but now make my own compost. Locally sourced plant nursery compost, (excellent dark colour, high organic content, and lovely crumbly texture) + coir + perlite, 3/1/1 ratio. Works a treat for me...

I'd agree with that, 100%. Most important thing for seeds and seedlings is high RH, until the root system properly develops. I'd avoid adding anything until the plant is established - 3-4 weeks at least.
