LIPSCOMB, Texas - Investigators say more than 109,000 marijuana plants have been found growing in the rural Texas Panhandle.

The Drug Enforcement Administration in Dallas on Wednesday confirmed the discovery but declined comment on whether anyone was arrested.

DEA spokesman Tim Davis says the outdoor plot was located several days ago in Lipscomb County. Davis did not say who found the plants or whether the marijuana has been destroyed. He says the plants have been removed and are no longer growing.

Further details weren't immediately released on the investigation involving local and federal authorities.

Lipscomb County is in the far northeast Texas Panhandle and borders Oklahoma.

I've always heard rumors of Mex Cartels growing pot Stateside. I guess it would be a hell of a lot easier than smuggling the shit.

Wasn't a cartel grow... Most any big op in Texas is pointed towards cartel bud but really most Texans won't smoke the garbage. There are however several big money gangs that do some pretty giant grows that are actually well taken care of and produce really good outs.. For a minute there was a massive flooding of Colorado bud here and I think the money flow of transport probably got people into attempting more commercial grows in the state hoping they don't get hit... Just my thoughts

This just goes to show you why it is completely paranoid to worry about the Feds taking an interest in the half dozen plants you have in your closet. As long as you have the most basic concept of being discreet, you have little to worry about.
There was that guy who posted a video on Youtube a couple years ago, offering to share (for free), the bounteous harvest of cannabis with which the lord had blessed him...
Recently, a small grow op was busted because they left their house, with the front door wide open and the cops wandered in to do a "welfare check".
Seriously, people, all it takes is a little discretion! The cops really don't gain much from busting small time grows and it is certainly not worth their effort to go out of their way for it.
Maybe if you live somewhere they don't have real crime, judges and prosecutors may be willing to come after you but in a lot of places they need to use their time more productively. Remember, the cops can suspect all they want but it takes a a judge to issue a warrant and a prosecutor to prosecute the case. Those tend to be intelligent, well educated persons who take the big picture into account.
