here is my 1st project after a 22yr hiatus. this plant was gifted to me @ appx 7 days old from seed. that was on 11/09/24, so she is 24 days old today11/26/24 (i think lol) . i haven't seen the dude since to ask any follow-up questions, all i know is he came out of his place of business (grow store) as i was pulling out and said here, and handed me a red solo with a smaller cup inside that had King Louis XIII x Scot OG written on it. inside was the brown starter plug w/ the sickly little plant. all he said was that it came from a feminized seed, and that it was fire. i'm 99% sure it's got a duckfoot mutation (pics to follow). she seems a lil stunted, but i have no other info on the strain for reference (i was hoping to get some 1st impressions and opinions here). plan is to blow her up quick as i can and take 2 clones under 12/12, figure out sex and decide on next move. my hope is to have a cool (duckfoot?) mother plant in a few weeks time. pics of roots are today and 2 days ago, once she gets some more roots i'm hoping she'll really take off, today she drank a 1/2 gallon in 12hrs. bucket is my own design based on homemade hydroton momma buckets we used 22+yrs ago; main differences are obviously the rockwool, and a pump instead of an air bubbler ring. water level is kept at 2 gallons as per line on sight glass. - light is a 300w vivosun full spectrum @ 100% (will try 50% maintenance after all cloning is completed, mother plants will always be under 24/7 light). nutes are gh 6 part aggressive formula week 4 with added orca, superthrive and some hi-brix molasses - 1400ppm total, topped off every day with R.O. water and nutes to maintain 1400 will drop to 400ppm maintenance formula after i hopefully get 10 good clones to grow out) constant feed 24/7 - flushed for 2hrs every 7 days with R.O. water @ 5.8 ph- air bubbling 24/7 - Co2 750-1000 (that's just home Co2 w/ 2 peeps and 2 dogs, will supplement to 1400 next week when i get new Co2 burner) ph is checked throughout the day and maintained @ 5.8 - 6.2... shew, what a novel; i hope it's not too long winded. lmao. i'm sure i prolly forgot things and will try'n update weekly. questions, comments and concerns are all welcomed and appreciated. thank you in advance for your comments and for your patience with a newbie -peace out, florida-

The so called ducks foot mutation was a clone only strain. There are variations like Frisian duck reading up most of the variations in seed forum are from Dutch passion.

I don’t know much about you growing style so I’ll hold off on saying much more

sorry but i strongly disagree. mutations happen naturally in virtually every species on the planet. do some more research and you'll find that there are at least 7 duckfoot variations, with dutch passion being only one of them

I think you misunderstood what I was saying.
I Don’t disagree that are variations and different mutations at all maybe I am not explaining myself correctly
It’s no biggie either way
Have fun growing

Thanks however I don’t have any criticism at all.
Okay, the pot looks a bit small, but I don’t know enough aboutYou’re growing style enough to say anything about it as the roots are going out the bottom so yeah, I’m not experienced enough with you growing style to say anything.
To be honest, I’m quite interested in how it turns out for you

ahh... it's my own mashup of grodan slab growing and dwc. the uni-slab is capable of supporting medium to large plants just on a flow table, i've grown 10 foot tall momma plants in similar setup with same 2-2.5gal reservoir with 3gal bucket of hydroton instead of the 4" cube and uni-slab. this plant will be kept as a very small mother plant (hopefully) as i am only allowed 12 plants total. i plan on keeping 2 mothers and only pulling 10 clones at a time. hope that helps clarify my grow style a little bit. oh, i have 1 - 4x4 & 1 - 4x8 tent. they will have 3x3 and 3x6 flow tables respectively, with a 20 gal reservoir under each. 4x4 will be for 10 plants early veg and 4x8 will finish 5 per side... sorry if i'm a bit long winded lol

cubic inches in 1gal pot = 231. cubic inches of combined 4" cube + uni-slab = 64+304 = 368 cubic inches

I was thinking about my reply
I know what I was trying to say ; I was trying to point out it wasn’t a mutation caused by stress or something else rather a trait of the strain.

My neighbour was gaslighting me last night while I was unwell so my head was in a bit of a mess when I replied I really got on just to get away from her and talk about something I love rather than dealing with her.
Have good day anyway.

here are what i believe to be "duckfoot mutation" pics... notice some of the leaves that are fused others with little or no serrations and some that look absolutely like a ducks foot- flat with no serrations' and 3 toe looking nubs. i'm not sure what i have here yet, and i'm no rocket scientist but she is unique (imho) and i love watching her phenomenal growth and awesome day by day changes. any and all thoughts and opinions welcomed and encouraged

that's funny as f#*k dude! oh, ok and no prob on the duckfoot reply... i took it to mean that i was full of shite and it was just stress related (it could turn out to be just that)... no worries tho my friend; you try and have terrific day as well
-peace out_

some more random pics of my room. bit of a learning curve on this site for an old fart such as myself, but i'm slowly catching on.

i think i'm seeing my 1st pistol hiding in the close up pic of the top

feeder tube going into sight glass is to help with aeration and for ease of getting test samples. don't even need to shut pump off, just quickly pull it out of tube and put in red solo and spray away

i'm getting some algae in the sight tube. i need some 1/2" clear blue tubing. if you know where i can source some lemme know.

blue lab pens are a little pricey but highly recommended. man i love those things

this plant has very little too no internodal spacing. i've only topped her once @ 5th set and she now has more tops than i can count (mebbe upwards of 30+)

she is only 27 days old from seed in this batch of pics

the feeder manifold was a happy accident for this mother bucket experiment. they are what i'll be using in my main tents for irrigation

this is only an experimental mother bucket. it will not be used in either tent, or for growing plants out

Welcome back to growing! 22 years is a long break. I have trouble remembering everything when I take my annual break.

I’m hoping to make my first attempt at DWC using GH in a few months AND I wanted to make my first run at clones before that. I look forward to pulling up a chair and following along with both of those! I have tons of questions for Google after this journal (starting with duckfoot??)

Best of luck with your grow! I’m subscribed to follow along, but I won’t be much help with hydro. Very creative grow!!

thanks for the kind words T_Dub, i've already learned from you that a scrog net can be placed much sooner than i thought.

also loving your diary, spreadsheets and very detailed explanations of what you're doing... awesome work brother.

you are already an astounding teacher and you don't even seem to know it! -peace-

this was my original plan using 6x36 rockwool slabs. i've decided for now i'm going to use uni-slabs on a 3'x6' ebb n flow table just to use as a drain. i'll cover the bottom with opaque white plastic , then cut individual holes in it to fit the slabs. this will reflect light and keep roots that outgrow the slab in the dark.
