i want to do a project to get the best purple buds. and i was thinking of getting all the purple strains i have, grow them out pick the best female and male. but if i had 2 or 3 males that i like, stick all of them with the one great female. has anyone used more than one male for one female ?
in need for some good input, because this going to be a long project, and i don't want to wast time on it ,if it's not a good idea. i was thinking of doing this for awhile now but never have tried it.
i did a search, but didn't see any threads on this subject

any thoughts !:damnhippie:

I would only do that if you were looking to preserve a the most of seedline's genetic diversity. If the point of the cross is to refine the resulting progeny than I would do the following and start reading on basic breeding principles.

Pollinate one branche with one male and label the father's branch so you can separate the beans and judge the strength of the males by the resulting progeny. If you end up with a plant you absolutely love you won't know what male was the keeper and you'll double the work to recreate the cross.

Good luck

yes that sounds good, if i was using 1 strain.

but I'm talking about if all the males where different strains of purple buds that i have found to be great males ,and the female i use is a great female from a different strain.would i get mutants plants. pollinating 1 female with the pollen of several different males.
sorry that's my question

Nah, you just wouldn't know which cross you were growing.

Why not pollenate several branches using one pollen donor for each?
Then you would know what you are growing and it would be easier to replicate/improve on if you find a keeper.

I have to add if you get a bunk cross, and it does happen, you won't know which cross was lacking combinability.

thanks
so your saying with 2 or 3 different male strains, all pollinating one female will give me all different seeds of all the males mixed on one bud. the males wont mix together and give me some new kind of strain with all the traits of all three males and the female in one seed.

Precisely hazeman. Male + male = a pile of pollen. The way to combine multiple fathers is with successive generations.
