Hey everyone, my question is simple I'd appreciate some opinions anyone has. I've grown hydro for a while now, few years. No soil experience.

My friend has a 4'x4' grow bed with an organic soil mix inside, and bags of different guano and worm castings. It's all about 2 years old. The soil was kept uncovered in his grow room, left in the dark, door closed, reletively cool temp wise sometimes cold due to the winters at his place. My question is would that stuff still be good to use? The bags of guano have been sealed just sitting on a shelf.

Thanks for the advice everybudy!

Sir

Does the bag not have a date on it that says how long it's good til? Some are 1 year. Some are 2 year.. depends on what you got. And check the bag.. soil is cheap, if it were me, and you're only talking about one bag?... just buy a new one

No bags for the soil. And no not one bag it's a 4'x4' growbed of soil poll 1.5' deep it's a lot of dirt.

So soil goes bad then? And the guanos? What happened over time that ruins them? Maybe I should just do hydro? It's what I have experience with I just thought organic soil would be a fun experience, but if I'd need to replace everything anyway it wouldn't be worth it... probably

There are two ways to find out:

Grow something in it and if it looks deficient, address the defficiency or fix it for round two. Funnest....

2nd method. Lab Tests for basic soil quality are $50. Not as fun.

Soil doesn't go bad per se, the CEC may change since it isn,t really static even in "un-active" soil and as such may change pH to some degree, but it is certainly worth a try imho.....
