Hi all

I have started my first grow tent and will update through out the process.

Feel free to give opinions on my progress as knowledge leads to bigger buds and happier times..!

Some info on my setup:
Tent: 4x4x6
Light: mars hydro 2000
Exhaust: mars 4 inch with charcoal filter vented outside.
Pots: 3 gallon
Timmer: 18hrs on 6 hours off
Seeds: auto critical fast bud
Soil: nature's organic mix

I'm setup and seeds are in soil.

I soaked seeds for 12hrs and then put into soil.
I choose to germinate this way in hopes to prevent movement.
A friend germinated in a paper towel and it didn't go so well.
I plan to keep soil moist continuously until I see the sprout.

I would like advise on watering, temp, humidity, light distance, when and how much to top, nutrients etc...

My first crop will be a learning experience..

I look forward to uploading weekly to my diary..!!!

Looks good. I’ve done about 7 grows with the tent using soil as a media and LED lights. I have planted clones in the past but am ready to try seeds. I was curious- what size containers are you using and did you plant seeds directly in the pots?

I'm using 3 gallon pots with holes in the sides and bottom for better air flow.
I soaked the auto flowering seeds for 12 hrs and planted directly in to organic soil.
Hoping it germinates I will update my diary as it grows fingers crossed.

I think you messed up a bit putting the seeds right into soil like that. I've done it, and it leads to two issues. First, watering is really tough to get right, and it is easy to overwater. Second, your growth could be very slow over the next month. Here's the technique I've used to germinate seeds. First, drop seeds into a glass of water, for about 12 to 24 hours. Tap them every few hours, and when they sink instead of floating, they've soaked up enough water to move on. Take them out of the water (before they drown) and put between moistened layers of paper towel. It's critical at this stage that they be moist, but not drowning so the paper towel should be moist more than wet. (Can be hard to control here.) After another 12-24 hours, you should have root coming out of the seeds. Prepare a Jiffy pot for each seed and use tweezers to carefully place each seed in a Jiffy pot, without touching the root as much as possible. Put the Jiffy pot in a solo cup (clear is best so you can see the roots) with a bunch of 1/8 inch holes poked in the bottom. It is at this stage that you may be most likely to over water, so be very careful here. The Jiffy pot should not be soaking, just moist/wet.

Grow in the solo cup for a few days, until the roots hit the bottom and develop a bit. (Easiest to tell with clear cups, not the red ones.) Rule of thumb is to transplant once the leaves get wider than the cup. Then dig a cup-size hole in your pots and carefully transplant the seedlings into them.

When I did your method, I had also tried to thoroughly wet and flush my 5-gallow fabric pots. I took them outside and hosed them down. The problem was that it took 4 weeks for the soil to dry enough for the next watering. Later on, once I had big plants in each pot, they would dry in 2 days as the plants drank up the water.

That is the method I'm going to try next.
I wanted to try this first because if it works it's the easiest..
But I will try the paper towel method next crop for sure as I would like to see the difference.
I'm using auto flower and the strain is a easy strain to grow.
So I'm hoping for good results.
But if I can improve with the paper towel I will definitely change methods.
Thanks

That was why I asked about putting seeds directly into the 3 gal pot. I agree with Phaxazcraig. That’s the method that I read about and will give it a try.

in 3 gallon pots you should be fine. thats how i did my last run with autos. my first couple waters were just water, dr root and some great white. the roots grew really fast. many folks say don't transplant autos just sow directly into the final pot

I too ave a 4*4 grow happening.
Made the mistake of growing seedlings in too big a pot ***** 3 gal us or 13ltr pots, slow growers.
Yes next Germination will be in small cups.

Cheers from under the Equator

How long did it take to sprout and how deep did you plant the seed

Update already!
Thanks to Jbl613 for his advise.
I'm now maintaining my temp and humidity by turning my exhaust down to slow the exchange of air and adding a extra 3 gallon pot that I can soak as needed to control the humidity.

Usual germination from soaking overnight to paper towel then mistake to plant seedling into 13lt pots.

I'm aware that the paper towel method is recommended.
I am trying to grow by soaking seeds for 12 hrs and then planting 3/4 inch deep into organic soil while maintaining 60 to 70% humidity and Temps of 21 to 28c with 4 inch exhaust and oscillating fan for proper o2.
I started growing for the hobby aspect and the free bud is a bonus.
To me there isn't right or wrong there is just trial and error.
Let's see in a week if they sprout or I'm starting over.

This has become a good discussion about germinating seeds. Very good comments and suggestions. Growing is always about learning. I’ve made many mistakes over the years but have learned a lot. It took me about 4 grows to get it right, and that was with clones. Now I’ll try learning about germinating seeds.

All 5 seeds have sprouted.
Soaked for 12 hours and put 1 inch into organic soil while keeping damp not wet.
Humidity is between 70 and 80%
Temp is between 24 and 26c.
3 gallon air pots.
1 oscillating fan and a 4 inch exhaust with filter.
4x4x6 tent.

Had some drips of water coming from the pipe going out side.
After investigation the warm air venting into the canadian winter has caused condensation.
My exhaust pipe wasn't tight so condensation was pooling at the dips.
I cut exhaust tubing to fit and repositioned straps.
I angled the charcoal filter a little higher then the motor to prevent condensation backing up into the motor.
Now that the seeds have sprouted I'm going to lower humidity down to 60 to 70.
Hoping that air flow will be more direct and work better.
