6K horizontal or THIS

6 ss chronic plants and 2 Chemdog D plants are currently in pure coco, or flock rockwool. I can do the same old 6k horizontal in a bedroom OR....

4k horizontal down the middle of the basement, two plants under each light.... (3) 600 lights on both sides vertically. 7.6k watts. But the big difference is that I don't want to up pot.

Here's a photo of the plants the first day with vertical light...

Rather than transplant into 7 gallons, I'd like to leave the plants in the 2.5 gallons of media, put them on a hydro timer watering ever hour. Has anyone gone this route with just as good results as up potting to 7 gallons, lets say, and watering every other or once a day?

That basement grow seems like they're not using their space wisely....I've been doing tons of research recently on vertical growing... So far, this is the most legit system i've seen however, they only claim to pull 7.5lb off 4 x 1000w MH...a couple things they do arnt making sense to me but its a legit use of space and seems fairly simple.

Sure. I'll trim my 8 plants into 300 clones to run in a vertical stadium. Thanks for the advice. /sarcasm

However, if I could I would run tables with 50 per 4x8. It should have been pretty obvious I was growing 8 plants rather than 100+ for a reason though. Lookin for the biggest yield, gpw isn't really on my mind.

For starters it was just a reference, an idea on how to switch things up...Just trying to help, smartass.

Stick with what works, youre not going to get heavier yields by constantly changing how you grow.

I've stood next to 8' tall x 4' dia trees in smartpots that small with bare bulbs all around. Pretty sure he's using botanicare 4-6x a day blend with extra perlite. Top drip, not sure about the watering schedule (a lot), and those trees were every bit legit as ones on this site grown rdwc, chow, hempy, etc. This guy pulls 2-3# per light regularly that way, amazing if you ask me, i dont understand how with such a small root system.

You got some room for 8 trees too cheech. The Chemdog D looks good. Did they improve with the feeding?

With your space and 6k of lights this is going to be a very good grow. I am super envious. There is going to be pounds of Chemdog D and SS Chronic buds when all is said and done.

In the pick on a couple lower fan leaves is that a few spots of pm or light shine. If pm it is easy to treat at that stage so I am just giving a heads up. I delayed my last grow because of a few spots on the fans. Got rid of it and increased the temps in my room. Well actually just getting the 1000w fired up got the room warmer and it never came back. It like cool and damp more than warm and damp or dry.

I just ran into a friend I had given the Chemdog D to and his were the best green and healthy leaves I had seen from this cut. He got rid of the mosaic with 1 tbs of Alaska Fish Fertilizer and 1 tbs of Peters in one gallon of water. His leaves were so supple and silky feeling and absolutely normal looking green color.

I am testing the mix on some vegging clones. I will keep you posted.

Yep a lil powdery mildew, I have green cure. The ass hat I gave my Chemdog #4 cuts to tossed them because of the pm - I would have picked them back up. So now it's down to Chemdog D, ss chronic and donk as the genetics I've got. Had to get rid of the od and Chemdog #4 and grape god because I don't go over my plant limit ever anymore. Just thought the people I gave em to could veg them out.. Geeesh.

T. It won't be 6 k horizontal if I keep them in the basement. It will be 4k cool tube in a row with 2 plants under each light. Then 4 or 6 600's around the perimeter...

Think I should up pot into 7 gallon containers? I'd like to see if I can pull just as good a yield in 2.5 gallon, but don't want to kill my yield if people know it doesn't work.

El C, you definitely gave me some positive motivation, seems like as long as they were constantly watered it wouldn't be a problem.

Ha, yeah I'm not that on it yet so went with 10gal smart pots with chow mix. What I saw was in a master's garden, not an imperfect leaf in the place, way beyond my current skills.

Well, I think I'm going to give the multiple container sizes ago. I have enough pumps to have each different container size on its own irrigation cycle. Doing it this way will answer some serious questions for me regarding the importance of up potting.

Yeah instead of asking questions you can give some freakin answers. LOL!

I like the mixed pots experiment but I would be inclined to use the 2.5 gallons.

Hey cheech, your in coco right?

I'd throw a couple average sized girls in 4 gal pot and see the difference. I've done really well with 3 gal maxis with large plants, and only fed 1 time a day..... They did have a large saucer underneath that I left full too. But these days I'm using 4 gals cuz they can last a day without a feed easier.

I have never liked cool tubes, they work great for removing heat but not so great coverage. I like to see you with vertizontal hoods, 2 plants a light in 4 gals with a screen or cages to train you plants as they stretch.

Ha, thanks, and I'll def be following along with my notepad. I'm still learning my way around it, but also highly recommend chow. Maybe just for the bigger pots though? I veg for a bit in coco liner pots, then put those into 10 gal smartpots.

Norm, Are you running straight coco? And what's the footprint thrown by those vertizontals? Cheech I'm curious why you aren't going all vert in that space?

I CAVED! My nerves got the better of me and I decided to transplant the 6 coco plants into 7 gallons and the 2 rockwool into 10 gallons. I really think this is for the best though to be honest. I allow my veg plants to get pretty big in 1 gallon to the point that I don't transplant until they need a full soaking every day. They blow up when I put them into 2.5 gallons.

Norm I don't like the cool tubes either, I only bought them because I got caught up in this idea or running a vertical air cooled room. After one round I realized it wasn't for me. BUT. In my short basement I'm able to get them higher up than my blockbusters, and if the plants stretch too far, I can actually put them btw the joists. I like your vision for me though, and can actually see it in the near future.

Here they are though. Lots of air movement so kind of blurry. They look great, I'm gonna give them one more week of veg at least and then flip them. I've got the bulbs at the center of canopy level to keep them from getting taller.

Want to say how impressed I am with the veg growth of the rockwool plants. They vegged twice as fast as my coco plants, and are now being flowered with a cycle of veg plants that were vegging a few weeks longer than them.

El C, I'm not going all vert, because I don't feel like I have the room with 8 plants. Plus, I really don't like having a lot of vert lights. It kills my humidity. I'm talking 20%... It also overwhelms me to the point I don't tend the garden very well because I'm being blinded. Then heat of course. I'm only drawing cool outside air in through one of those block window basement vents. I'd have to do some goofy const. work to get cool air from an upstairs window drawn down to the basement through 8'' duct.

With the 4k horizontal lights I know I can pull 8 ounces off of each chronic, just with the horizontal, which is 1 lb per 1k. With the added vertical 600's I'm hoping to get 10-12 ounces per chronic plant. No idea how Chemdog D will do, I love that plant but am intimidated by it as well.

I hear you, vert is tough to work around for sure. I decided to go horizontal short term for this reason while I get my new room dialed in, then might switch to vert once I have a solid routine. Heat isnt an issue for me until july/august. You really need special eyeshades for vert, the ones for torch cutting or lampwork. I like your idea of adding in the 600s, might do that myself and just switch those off when im in there.

Your plants look good, which photos are the Chemdog D? I also have one of that strain about to flip, 3ft dia 2ft tall in 5 gal smartpot with about 40-50 even tops (should have scrogged it, will add netting when I flip). I'm just not sure what to expect for budding on Chemdog D when running it like this. It not my pickiest eater, but a little tougher to guess than some others. I'm a little worried about keeping up with it in flwr.

I didn't take any. Here's some pics of it a lil while ago though. Hoping to get it in flowering shape soon.

I actually have to go to htg to get new inserts for my 8'' cool tubes. I want the inside inserts so light doesn't go through glass before being reflected back down. Any suggestions for something else I could put in there anyone? Aluminum foil tape?

Any updates?

I would suggest some Mylar to cover the walls and really make use of all the lumens bouncing around. I really like your idea for a hybrid light set up. I would think 7-10 gallons of hydroponic media is quite a lot of room to grow in can't wait to see the final product.
