Lol. So yes. I quitted hydro . I was so close to success I think but during my last couple of tries I decided I was done with being stressed out without any success and dove right into a coco coir grow. The baby is a beaut. Name is Venus and she’s a

Set up:
- 60%Coco Coir 40%Perlite
- Coco Coir buffered with GH calmag and ph’ed water

Highlights on what I did to get started:
- I germinated my seed in the coco coir mixture and a solo cup with drainage.
- Once sprouted, placed under light.
- Fertigated seedling twice a day until I was up to 1000+ EC, then dropped down to once a day for no particular reason lol. Just because I already reached the goal EC and the baby was still happy. I’d like to mention the green algae that grows on the top because the coco is wet and the light is hitting it. That’s normal. If you hate seeing it, like I did, I would scoop it out and just replaced more coco mix if i removes too much. Otherwise, once the canopy covers the coco, the algae quits growing.
- Transplanted seedling once the baby canopied the solo cup but ultimately becauSe I saw roots starting to grow out the drainage holes.
- Once in Octopot, the solution for my res is:
Silica
CalMag(5mg/gal)
Maxigro(.5tsp/gal)
Hydroguard
Sensizym
Aimed for 800ppm then later ended up around 900-1000 high feed cause why not

anyway pics now!

You know what they say... if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Hydro was going to get pretty tasky especially all the effort it takes to change the res. I assume it gets easier as you go but it’s nothing like having a substrate like coco. It ends up being semi hydro anyway so you reap from the benefits of a hydro grow. Don’t quote me.

No bro, this does not work unless you live in colder climate maybe. My very first plant was using this Kratky method and my baby made it to a point then got rotted because the water ended up getting too hot one day and lost all the dissolved oxygen in the res. I have a post on a couple of my attempts after that. The very last one should have worked but I ran into a brown sludge issue and at that point I was tired of the abuse of hydro I tried to save her but she just wouldn’t turn around and it ended up being that I was so tired I didn’t clean all the brown sludge near the roots.

Here are pics from the Kratky attempt. It was nice until she got bigger and I fimmed her. Issues I ran into were I exposed the water to too much light(noob) because I put up Mylar and my res tub was white and allowed too much of the light into the res. There was hope but you have to be experienced to be able to experiment with this method. I was a noob and if I knew what I know now, I may have been able to get away with it. Then I got all the equipment for DWC and that was promising until I got fatigued with having to diagnose issues that I’ve never ran into before.

here are pics from the Kratky attempt. I was so lucky and got herfarther than any other hydro attempt for sure.

It really sucks you had a hard time.
My first hydro was just pots sitting in a tray of nutes about 1/3 deep under water, with air stones all over.
Roots filled the tray, and plants grew like mad.
All I did was kept the PH right, and kept an eye on the EC, and changed res once a week.
I've grown in rocks, Plastic, and glass beads, pillow stuffing, basically any thing inert for the roots to grow in.
Using GH 3 part series. I never add anything extra unless it's for PH, and have grown a lot of different strains.
well, I take that back, I bought some Green Crack seeds, and those were the most finicky, poorly growing plants ever. That's back when Snoop Dog made it famous :)
It's funny tho, cause what you are doing now, can't be beat, because you can grow different strains, at different ages, and raise each plant where it needs to be with the cannopy.
You cant give individual plants the attention they deserve growing in a bed or tray where many plants live, like a SOG. They have to all be the same height.
After all my playing with Hydro, I ended back at the basics :) Bottom fed, or drain to waste Baby !!! :)

I'm thinking about setting up the Rain gutter grow sytem, but then again, I just realized, they all have to be the same height, Jeez. Decisions, decisions, LOL.
I love those octopots, but I can't bring myself to pay $50 a piece. I am going to build something similar with grobags, tho. I have 20, 5 gallon fabric pots to work with, and a bunch of net pots. I just need to make some reses, like buckets painted black, or something. When I come up with something, I'll make a post.
Maybe a hybrid rain gutter grow system.
I'm also currently growing some Stawberry Cough.

Yassssssssss bottom fed and drain to waste team all the way. I’m convinced and currently successful. I can’t rave enough about it. The baby doesn’t lie. Lol. She is my first success attempt so I have an IDEA that she’s going to be all right. I feel like SoG is meant for a bigger space. I have random patience so I can tolerate waiting a little longer using some stress training for more bud sites.

Octopots are life! I’ve built my own self-wicking systems. Although they are cheaper and easy to do, this premade system is just so convenient and aesthetically pleasing. To each their own of course. But I’m just so content with this system lol. It will be hard to convince me to try another system lol.

also the container need to be just as big as the octos because the surface space allows for the water to stay cool. Good luck!

The last pic of the original post was taken on Sunday. And this is her today. She’s grown so much since . Refilled her tank to 1040ppm 6.1ph. Same solution except I added about .75tsp/gal of Maxigro which I dissolve in a 1/4c of hot water first. She’s just sitting at the level o the ScrOG

If I hadn’t found coco, this would have been my next addition. The Hydroguard is good but I feel the bacteria you are using is a big deal in hydro.

Some new pics, not the most current status but this is some post training pics. On hindsight, I would have wanted to bend more down and utilize the ScrOG more for when it grows after the bending.

Pics from today!!! I think I’m close to defoliation and flipping.
Because I’m on the bottom feed regime my solution is still the same. Once I switch over I’ll add koolbloom to the mix.

Looking great! I think I'm going to get the old system out and give it another whirl just to prove I can still do a hydro grow, maybe. You do look close, remember your going to double or triple in size after the flip. What's your distance from the plant to the light source look like? (how far)

I would consider taking some good pictures (in normal light) of your root ball for comparison after the flip, especially trying to capture the color.

Everything looks great, the internode is a bit on the far end, I suspect, you might consider bumping that light down closer and see if that helps some, but otherwise, everything looks great.

We are about 20 inches away but we can definitely up to light intensity for this baby. I’m in a bottom feed coco so I haven’t checked to see if my roots are in the res yet. I will next feeding. This is my first successful grow so from this point on everything is still new to me. Everything I know about the future of this plant is from research.

Thanks for the feedback. Very much appreciated. Also I’m sure the success in hydro doesn’t leave you. It definitely kept me busy... and stressed because I was learning

Plant looks awesome great job!!!
Just out of curiosity where did you get the genetics?
I only ask because I bought strawberry seeds from ilgm.com and it looks nothing like that. I think they’re just giving me seeds out of a bag and charging 100$ for them . The plant I have is very heavily sativa oriented. I’ll include a pic of a cutting I took off it

If you need some good genetics, I can probably help out. I've probably got 50,000 different seeds right now, and many more on the way. I've got a few people here growing my genes out and seem to be pretty happy so far.

Your plant here reminds me of my trifolate white widow I have right now. Big beautiful broad leaves. But mine has a little genetic abnormality that yours is missing, a "tri" stem structure. It's a freak, I want to try and breed out.
