A Couple Black Sheep.

Hey Farmers,

I have a couple black sheep in my veg...not quite sure what could be causing this and was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice. I have 40 blue dreams in veg and all of them are looking beautiful (need a little calmag) but are quite healthy other than that...besides two or three of them. They have some leaves that are not doing well I am stumped as they have received the same treatment as the rest of the veg. I am growing in coco using a GH base and they are about 5 weeks old. Temps have dipped into the 60s here and there but most of the time have been riding in the 70's. I had some red spider mites in a different room about three weeks ago and sprayed forbid on all of these blue dream plants. Humidity stays around 40%. Anyone have any experience with this weird mid-leaf shrivel??

looks like they need some calcium - magnesium and manganese

did you precharge your coco with calmag? what ratio are you feeding the gh per gal? using all three parts?

they will be more happy in veg if you can get rh around 55% - as long as the root zone in the 60's shouldnt lockout anything - but those look to be on concrete which could be cooler than the ambient temps (another thing to keep in mind)

Thanks motherlode! I did not recharge my coco with calmag...how would you recommend doing this? I am just using the micro and bloom and adding cal mag plus by botanical which was in the first feeding. Never thought about lifting them off the concrete! Wonderful pointers thank you very much! :)

coco binds calcium/magnesium locking it up from being absorbed - so a precharge is in order

i flush coco with 6.0 water and check runoff for ppm's - have found sometimes that low ec preflushed coco can be around .7 ec - some are better than others in this regard - i try and shoot for .3 - then I mix 10 ml cal/mg gal at 6.0 and give it another good flush - best if you do this a few days before your transplant and let that coco dry out some first few feedings I bump up the cal/mag to make sure there is an abundance

i use cal mag for veg but bc of the extra n I now use liquid bonemeal (herculean harvest) and epsom salts in flower

you didnt mention your micro/bloom ratios - are you doing lucas 8/16 or the modified h3ad formula 6/9?

Thanks for sharing the tips about the precharge! This is my first time ever using the forums and its awesome to be able to chat about tips and techniques. I use canna coco and have been doing the modified h3ad formula. I also use great white shark and hybrid molasses every feeding. I have been toying with using the silica blast from botanicare as well. Do you use silica at all? I still don't know too much about it or when the best times to use it are.

personally I am not a fan of the h3ad modified lucas - my plants were randomly deficient when I tried it and I did better with the 8/16 - though I think I ran it 8/12 during veg - been many bowls ago

I do use silica - though I use the aptus stuff (mostly as a foliar) and it is pricey and but its bio active and contains more than just silica - but really goes a long way

you can use that silica blast from veg through flower - but I think you are supposed to stop using it a month before you harvest - again a product I have not used in a few years
