Hello all. Brand new "old head" here. Been growing throughout prohibition in Ohio since 1999. Always grew "guerilla style" due to city life, no space available in living spaces and really just to have a stash and love of the plant. But never have I tried to make homemade butter until this year. I had a few ladies needed pulled early due to some heavy rain like the last 5-10 days of flower. But they was totally muffled by nature so chop I did. The flowers didn't dense up at all so i decided to do a decent dry trim and use all the larf to infuse butter. Here's what I did:
I had 57 grams of headie trim/larf bud. Chopped the larf up neatly and decarbed at 215° for 45 min. (Started at 220° but the herb started to smell LOUD and assumed it was cooking it too hot and the 5° made it stink less.
So, I melted the butter as the flower did the oven science and simmered until a foam head formed and then scraped that off the top of the butter. Then put the weed in some cheese cloth real neatly, placed the bundle in my crock pot and poured the butter on top, having room temp water on hand I then added it until the herb bundle was completely submerged and turned it on low.
The initial temp (used a probe thermo) was 168.4°, then turned on High and an hour and a half later temped at 176°7, keeping close watch temped again 15 mins later at 198.3. So I turned it back to med and checked on the hour. It stayed at around 188°-196° for another 2.5 hours.
I then strained through wire mesh and removed any solids and it's currently in the freezer. It's DARK green and I'm kinda curious if I used too much, if it infused at the med-low temps or anything relatable will help.

If you got a decent decarb which it looks like, then your material was activated and your infusion began as soon as you added the butter to it
Any simmering below 200f (93c) is fine, thc will vaporize above 314f (157c) so it looks good for your process
The thc can take some abuse but the longer the processing the more "sleepy" the end product becomes
Maybe CBN being processed by the heat and long times as part of the degradation process
The color is just chlorophyll from the heated extraction, you get a lot of extras if you don't do cold extraction

Thanks for the input. It helped set my mind at ease.i know I probably made a mistake or two, and lore than likely at least one I don't know about.
When I pulled it outta the freezer it separated perfectly, at least looked the same as all the online tutorials. But when i took the butter off the top of the solution the underside was rimmed with a perfect ice circle and I scraped it off with a spoon. Ultimately ending up with a fat table spoon of sludge butter and froze it with the cut bars. I might remelt and pour into ice cube tray to mold it, or idk. I still have another smaller bag of good trim and all the larf or popcorn I didn't feel like manicuring so next batch will be 38 grams (but I sifted that and got 7 grams of pistilsand keef) and the trim is still sparkling so idk if I'll add the sift.
I guess all that's to it is for me to stop being sissy and try it for the effects. I'm gonna go slow of course lol. But I'll update when I experience the effects and let all know if almost 60 grams is too much. Wish me luck lol

I'm gonna go slow of course lol. But I'll update when I experience the effects and let all know if almost 60 grams is too much. Wish me luck lol

So sorry for the delay yall... SO, long story short this butter is super body vibes and couch lock to the extreme.
First dose was 1/2 teaspoon mixed in with Ramen noodles (rasta pasta) and omg, after 30 mins I was floating and after 45 mins I was full on melting into my couch (slept there that night)
Idk if it has a quick tolerance issue or whatever but next day I took same dose in a cup of tea with honey and lemon, 30-45 mins and effects set in. Major body vibe. Eliminates all aches and pains and once again knocks you out.
[I'm calling it "Tyson butter"]
3rd time I took a whole teaspoon with Ramen and still not scary or anything. I believe I cooked it so long I concentrated the CBN and CBD along with the THC but this is more of a nighttime or medicinal butter. Next time I'll cook way shorter and let yall know.

Those who process longer seem to get a sleepier or heavier effect oil/butter
Pair it with the 11 hydroxy conversion in your liver and it appears to be lights out
It will be interesting to see if a shorter process time changes the effects
I do infused syrup most of the time which has lighter effects and allows me to function, my oil is potent and hard to control the dosage as I crammed to many mg into it

About to try a technique with sous vide and infusing caramel
It may be possible to make infused caramel at 200f (93c) using a sous vide technique
It took the OP 50, yes 50 hours to do it but if it does work it will be a better method of infusing caramel than playing with temps that could evaporate your thc

I thought of coconut oil and the same Thesis.
You did great 1st timer😉 I make a LOT of infused coconut oil and it's the same recipe except I don't add the water. Oil or butter in a glass jar with decarbed weed 3hrs in slow cooker, 5hrs for sleep. Put water in the slow cooker to about the hight of the oil mix in the jar, lose fitting lid on jar.

The coconut oil is great for making caps

I keep to 1 once of oil/butter to 1 gram decarbed weed. It also makes a great sauve:

You can make the sauve with THC only and it will work well for just about any skin aliment as well as joint and muscle pain.

With the butter you made you now need to make some brownies or cookies. Start with a small amount and wait a good hour plus before eating more. Go slow😉

Even trim will work but double the amount to 2 gms per oz oil.

57 grams of super sugar leaves and the trim chunks that hit the screen. (No pickup gang) and one pound of unsalted butter.
Decarb the biomass and melt the butter skimming the heavy white milksugars (losing about 6-7 grams)
THIS IS WHERE I MADE A *MISTAKE.
with the herb wrapped in cheesecloth sat in a crockpot I poured the rolling butter 210° saturating the trim then immediately submerged with hot sink water run into the crock and with a probe thermometer ran the tmp to 200° after 3-4 hours and i let it run on med temp on my crock for another 20 mins but it starts to smell "cooked" but heady and carry a rich unmistakable flavor that melts into anything. (CannaPan cakes are very amazing).
But, once decided done donned gloves with stretchy gloves wrapped around to squeeze the oils from the biomass into the water and crock until satisfied all butter is retrieved and flip into a long box with a lid and chill(I freeze) until separate and solid happen and use common sense from there...

The syrup recipe is easy and requires concentrate (decarb please), handheld emulsion blender (is best), a product called 210S, water, sugar and a pan
Make the simple syrup recipe of choice, recommend a rich syrup 1 part water and 2 parts sugar for shelf life


This product is a mix of xanthan (90%) and acacia gum (10%)
The gums bind the cannabis oil to the sugar water and it works in both hot and cold drinks
