The pic of the African hybrid shows leaves similar to ours just not purple.
Who knows if the exact strain from the 80s is even still around? It's been many decades since anyone I know of smoked it.

As far as strains in Africa? Who really knows which is really the real deal? I'm sure the smoke in Africa is unique regardless of exact lineage and I'm sure they are getting baked as hell no matter what they name it.

Wouldn't you want to start these plant's 12/12? In the region that these plants are from, the average amount of daylight is 12 hours and 7 minutes all year long...so they should flower fine under 12/12...

I'm really excited to know more about these plants, it sounds like something I'd like to grow! That Dalat sounds interesting as well...

I honestly believe that the reason that you don't see a lot of these truly psychedelic plants being grown is probably because they take so long to flower...then people start trying to breed them for a faster finishing time which may dilute the effects. What do you think?

If You're referring to marijuana seed connect, then you might want to reconsider because several people on THIS forum bought some seeds and seem to be questionable as to IF they're the REAL thing or NOT!
Here's a pic of mine!
Personally, I HIGHLY doubt it!

Alright farmers, one thing we have to remember is, there are thin leaf plants, and thick leaf plants. Not all thick leaf means indica, and not all thin leaf means sativa. This is what we have been taught, but it isn't law. My grow circle here up north started talking about this, when my buddy picked up the iranain from doc. Greenthumb in Canada. The iranain grows short and fat. Bushy. Sturdy arms. 5 x5 by the end. Very "indica" structure, or what we believe an indica is supposed to look like. BUT, she has thin long sativa leaves. If you saw just her leaves, you would say landrace sativa for sure. I've never seen any old bam pics, but if this plant doesn't come from a highland area, or very low humidity area like Iran, she may have a larger leaf size. The lowland cannabis plants have the big fat leaves. Leaf size has more to do with altitude and humidity, than the categories they have been placed in. Never been to Congo, but maybe this girl comes from a more lowland area, yet still close enough to the equator, to get that uv light. Am running three, will put some pics up later.

Couldn’t agree more…
Congo sativa’s grow tall and airy with large displacement between internodes.
All due to heat, lack of air displacement, & humidity, the plants have naturally adapted to prevent mold etc
UV levels are through the roof in that area & altitude level change fast…
The below pic which I have posted already is a classic example of what you’re describing:
much of the continent lies in the intertropical zone, where the intensity and the strength of the sunlight are always high.(Roughly 46% more solar radiation than the North American continent, and more solar red waves Which also contributes increased plant height, As a matter of fact the solar intensity is so high it creates a cloud like environment during the day)
These plant pics below were very near the Ituri Forest area according to the article: note leave spread/length.

The entertainment value of all this is worth the admission price. It's kept me preoccupied during a pretty dismal summer so far.

“African landrace strains are the marijuana strains that are indigenous to the continent of Africa. These landrace strains have some striking similarities, such as having a hardy nature and being resilient to fluctuating weather conditions.

They also have similar physical characteristics, such as having an elongated shape, sturdy stems, and widely-spaced buds. Most of the African landrace strains are sativas which produce a potent cerebral buzz and uplifting effects.

Recent research has also shown that African landrace strains are also rich in a newly identified THC homologue that is known as THCV. THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) has many therapeutic benefits, including the regulation of blood sugar and appetite suppression.”

I think he’s referring to no one else besides his seed plug has grown or seen this strain in 30 years…Ppl find one little word in your sentence and twist it around you know what he meant… When I spoke to him he was a chill dude and answer all my questions. He gets most of his seeds from this old school breeder that has been doing it for 30 years. So that’s the real guy you need to talk to about this but I would say on a hunch he knows what he’s doing. That doesn’t mean this is Forsure this strain but let’s just grow it out and see the end result rather than go back in forth day after day when ppl post pictures of there plants every single day from them being a seedling all the way till harvest. I just wanna skip all the bullshit I’m seeing between everyone here and get to harvest and discuss. Time to Unwatch and just check back in 3-4 months when the dust has settled just to see how it turned out.

Interesting—
landrace with international cred it’s Durban Poison. With its tall bushy build and narrow fan leaves, it’s fragrance of earthy tones, pine, and sweetness, make it a favourite around the world.

To begin with, this plant “initially produces Indica style leaves, but in the latter parts of the flowering period it’s dominant Sativacomes through.

Normally, this strain tests between 16-24% THC, but it’s the active high that gets used by individuals who want less CBD in their hit.

Ya, Dante seems like a cool guy and it's nothing personal... But at $25 a seed, he should make damn sure that they're the REAL Black Magic African seeds! (He didn't even test run them BEFORE selling them!)
I already said that it's a beautiful plant with a slightly dark blueish hue! But probably isn't the fabled and legendary Black Magic African!
And that doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't have some Black Magic African genetics in it or somewhat related. With that being said, it seems to be a hybrid!
It certainly doesn't fit the descriptions of Black Magic African that my friend in Durban, South Africa tells me about! And doesn't match my friend's pics either! Just saying...
But, like you say, let's wait a few months, then we will see! I have 2 growing in my greenhouse now!
I've had black weed a few times like Blackberry Kush, Black Velvet and some brick weed about 30 years ago! ALL of them were AWESOME! The pics below are from my friend!
1. Black Magic African in Ghana
2. Slightly cross pollenated HIS plant
3-6 KwaZulu landrace from just outside of Durban
Happy growing brother!
