Never run cooled hoods before. But this time I'll have 2 dual bulb raptors inline running 2 600s each. Will my spare 6" vortex provide enough air for cooling, (fresh filtered exterior air in and out to my basement which could use the extra heat.). The room is 8x10' with 1, 4x8 flood tray, passive air intake, 1, 8" can fan with an 8"odor filter. Can the bulbs be damaged or fail if there is not enough air flow?

I always err on the side of too much airflow. I would go bigger than six- and I' personally wouldn't stop at ten. Go big airflow, put the lumens down on the leaves- keep your leaf temps in the grow, and grow fast range. 2cents

that vortex is enough for at least 2-3 hoods

absolutely nothing wrong with overdoing it, itll show on cooling costs

have you considered barebulb vertical? ...it's possible the 8inch fan and scrubber combo would do the whole job, 2x 600's should be easy, i run a single 600 in a 4 x 4 with a few small fans for circulation and a 6inch CanFan MaxFan, the one with the 3 speed controler built in, and with a scrubber of course. ...temps stay stable at high 70's -very low 80's.

i agree with PB though, if you go with a hood you'll be concentrating that heat so you'll need good fannage and it's always best to go big when it comes to fans, better a too big fan turned down than a too small fan unable to do the job.

peace, bozo

But, what is the minimum airflow? Can I damage the bulbs or cause a fire with too little air flow?

I don't think so..I think you could run the hoods with glass intact and no fan running..just as long as the vent holes were open. Might shorten the bulb life a little.
But these guys are right..the more airflow the better...or just run open hoods with no glass or bare bulbs with no hoods. I run a 10" per 2 1k's and the hoods are barely warm.
Might consider a fan for intake..it would take some of the pressure of the 8". I run 6" fans on the intakes with a sporax filters and 10" fans for the lights and carbon filter, and still get negative pressure.
