Hi OYY ! never too late to watch some Yum Yum Growlogs !!! :)
im finding that the ultimate fighter has a very hard shell and needs som scuffing before germination.
This is very true. I should of given everyone a heads up. Most of my Urkle hybrids seem to be this way. A little scuffing beforehand or a little help at the seeds seem after the soak seems to work wonders. I germ tested everything and got %100 germ rates on everything before I sent anything out but I did have to help the Ultimate Fighters along. A couple didn't pop after the first few days...after a little scrapping with a razor across the seeds seem until it helped them open a little and they all had taps the next day...
Peace
Well, my point about that it's that we should not forget that cannabis genetic is not just about pheno structure, potency, taste, smell, yield and... other things of interest...
I mean it's obvious that any beans have a more or less hard shell to protect him depending on the genetics involved... So, some bean shells can be really hard and not as easy to open... while others can be more thiny and open pretty fast...
When you have some beans that seems harder than others to open after a simple soak, maybe these beans have some genes requiring you to do something special... like breaking the "Dormancy" o_O
I've experimented this fact several times... Breaking the Dormance also works well for old old beans... ;)
I use to soak all my seeds in mineral water for 12/24h max...
I like to soak them on the better days/hours possible, following the germination window of the moon, according to the lowest tides coefficient... (I really believe this help a lot to get good germ rates)
I also believe that breaking the "dormancy" of the cannabis seeds shells is really important to get the best germ rates possible... I use to do that, by changing the T° storage of the seeds several times upon 2/3 days before the soak, that means 2/3 days before the best day/hour folowing the moon... kind like that...
>from storage in Fridge... I put the beans in the Freezer for 2 hours, then... put them back to the bottom of my fridge for 8 hours... then Freezer(4h)... Fridge(10h)... Freezer(8h)... Fridge(6h)... Out of the fridge (Ambient T° for 4h)... Fridge(6h)... Freezer(12h)... Fridge(6h)... Ambient T° till soaking...
After soaking I put them direct into soil... this to minimize/avoid tap roots damping-off...;)
HS maybe it would be worth trying that with your "Urkle" based beans ? just my 2c. ;)
Very welcome bro! I got 2 outta 3 of the Ultimate Fighters outta the cube now. The first one emerged from the cube less than 48 hours. Scuffed the shit outta the last 2, and the second emerged 72 hours. Still waitin on number 3!! Should be any day. I always give beans 2 weeks before I give up hope. These are gonna be serious kill, thats for sure.
Yeah, in addition to the hardiness of each shell, there is some beans that needs more time to wake up... who knows what !? ...Genetic mystery... ;) I've already seen seeds breaking the ground after 3 weeks ! o_O:D !?!
And sometimes they looks like stellar rockets in veg department !
So, don't give up the hope to early... be patient... at least for those who can coz I'm fully aware that you need time and space... But sometimes it's worst the wait, specially when it's about some very special beans... ;)
Keep on Rockin' OYY !!
Peace;)
