Hey @RoadKillSkunkHunt where'd you go..? Crickets eh?...ooh look.... A tumbleweed!
Thanks for the level-headedness @BearWater and @MileHiGhost. This was my point: Milky trichomes become amber with time on the living plant or on dried plant material. It doesn't really matter...just do you and trust your instinct. You will find your own sweet spot. The reason we use trichomes to judge maturity is just that -when the trichomes start becoming amber, the plant is maturing, and that's a good place to start. I remember waaaay back - before the amber trichomes thing became popular - plant maturity was judged on brown hairs. Back then, the advice floating around in the mid-90s in NZ was to harvest when the plant was exhibiting 70% brown/dead pistils and 30% white/pink/yellow/ alive pistils. This was a gauge of plant maturity, not strength. The same with amber Trichomes, they come with maturity, they do not, for example, tell you how strong the weed is going to be after 7months in a curing jar.
So this has been a great thread and we have dispelled a number of myths. Well done everybody! Seems I am still enjoying this site sans echo chamber racist scoundrels lol. Terpy out *drops mic*

I think you jumped the gun and led a guy down the wrong path. How many strains are actually ready after 7 weeks? That's right, not many. Those plants should go a couple more weeks before we're even talking about harvesting. I'm glad they aren't mine because if someone chopped them now, I would be furious.

Most of my strains are 55-60 days man..sooo what are you saying...? Seven weeks, as stated, is a great place to start. There's no meat on this bone for you to chew. You asked where the amber trichs were. I showed them. I've argued successfully on every single point. I've completely lost what your point was, other than to besmirch my advice for some reason...you are running a serious risk of appearing like a growly old dog with no teeth, mate. Here you can have the bone mate... It's not important to me. My points have been clearly made. Anyone with eyes to see knows what I'm talking about. I'm sorry, after all my effort, you are still no closer to grasping the concept everyone else seems to have, without issue. (Republican perhaps? Dissonance much! haha).
Well, I did try, and I'm glad I've found some agreement with the others here, and my efforts haven't been in complete vain. Only here to help, not here to tell anyone they're wrong (unlike you sir), but will defend my position.
Good morrow!

It's about teaching others to know what to look for in their trichomes, so it'd be as good, if not better, than any of the commercial grown....not your damn preference, thank you.

I'd rather listen to reason, over preference.

Opinions are like assholes, but I'm a hemorrhoid...I irritate assholes. . Hava nice day

Only the southern 1/3 of the USA that has had time for 7 weeks of flower. You would have to be in the 35N or further south to have enough time for a full 7 weeks at this date. Flowering start date where I'm at around Aug 15th so that's still not 7 weeks for those in Michigan. You're going by breeder estimate times. These 55-60 day flowering cycles aren't happening very often in the real world. If they were your flowers, you would want to be sure. You have nothing to lose if you're wrong where as the OP has all his time and effort washed down the drain due to mistiming his harvest.

Alright here's today's update: I am having to trellis more of the upper branches on the big one, its getting heavy. Still not a lot, if any, of amber but I am seeing mostly Milky trichomes which is good. Winds here get upwards of 20mph which gives me anxiety but I have enough supports I think, unless the big one decides to explode on me (crosses fingers).

Still holding off... as hard as it is. I feel like I'll see more weight on the big one definitely. Not so sure on the small one. Thoughts are appreciated!

This is the time they are doing most of their bulking and potency. You can actually feel and smell the changes to the buds as they grow.

There's one branch on the big one I am tempted to pull now; its like falling over due to the weight. Ill post a pic of that to be sure.

As much as I want to cut the small one tomorrow morning.. I am going to wait lol. Glad I looked on here.

To be sure, the dispensary where i got this strain said their flowering period for these phenotypes was at 56 days / 8 weeks (though outdoors i think all hands are off thr table, so to speak).

Where in the country do you live? To have had 8 weeks of flower, you would have to be Little Rock or further south. Most of the country will not have had your 8 weeks of flower yet.

Cut the one branch. Test it out. At least you're not putting all eggs in one basket that way.

Still has a fair amount of white stigmas. I’d harvest depending on your weather. If you have some hot days coming, I’d wait (so you’re not drying in high heat). If you’re dealing with upcoming rain, I’d be fine with harvesting as most of your trichomes look milky (and I’m not a fan of the red). And no reason not to bring it down over days or weeks as the whole plant doesn’t mature at the same time.

Hoss = Republican lol...knee jerk reaction much hahaha! I see you, mate (big flag on your front lawn too huh..ick!)! Your preference was requested at the start of the poll. Being as that's what the purpose of a poll is, far be it from me to tell you how things work, though you clearly know it all, lol. If you had read and responded intelligently to the thousands of words I wrote explaining everything clearly, instead of reacting to three words in brackets, you would know I said it's about personal preference, specifically in regards to medicating. You also missed the part where trichomes age anyway on the plant or in the bag; there's no correlation to the strength of the final product after curing. Lots of conversion processes take place to age the trichomes when drying and curing...so milky or not, they all end up amber in the end.
You mean you tickle assholes, don't you?... cos imma giggling my ass off! Keep your political annoyances off the thread, bro. That's not fair... It's about weed. And all I've done is share my knowledge, which is kind of what this site is about. I'm a grain of sand - I irritate dickheads! I'm a wee bit of exercise -I chaff hemmoroids!

55-60 days, as I thought. She done son..as is your argument! Flowering period has little to do with global positioning but with genetics. How the world grows, their weed, believe it or not, has nothing to do with YOUR global position. Some cannabis plants flower earlier, some later, some flower faster, some slower. You are trying to cookie-cut the world around you to suit your own narrative/experience. You must understand that lashing out at people just because people differ from your perspective doesn't make you right (something that has follow-through in all aspects of life, mate)
If you would care to listen, though you won't, there is no point cutting one branch off to flash dry it as it will taste like arse just to compare taste and high with something dried properly and cured nicely, which is a process that takes months. Make that make sense people. Sheesh, and I'm the one supposedly throwing around bad advice. .. Two ears - one mouth, great ratio to live your life by.. bruh! Toodleloo!

The reason I’m so leery of giving any kind of advice. I’ve been giving advice to someone on here, because they live 5 miles away. Everyone is different, opinions too. I don’t stress about the obvious. I mostly have to harvest according to the weather. No one complains about my weed. Terpy, I have a flag in my front yard, I’m the biggest liberal you’ll ever meet. Not a mealy mouthed liberal, a fighting liberal, and proud of it!

My first outdoor grow i didn't expect much and still got a good amount, but I think I cut early. Reason I came on here was because I was already looking up so much stuff, I figured adding my experience to the mix would help. So far, it has- i would have cut last weekend if not for the poll(s) I made. Here's some pics of last year's grow

I see some amber in there and say you're close. Now it's up to how you want the high to feel. A little racey, take now. Couch lockish, you need to wait a bit. It really is up to you. I'd recommend taking an upper branch and allow it to dry and keep a few buds until you've harvested and dried the plant and you can compare. This way in the future you'll know what you want/like. Harvesting in sections this time might also help.

Personally I like them early, on time and late, but I'm a weed hoe

One of the good ones, we are the same then as you can tell im no mealy mouthed Lib either. Im a protector/defender/sovereign citizen and i will stand up to any hate spreading fool! That flag stands for a lot more love and freedom than the hate and division the Reps are waving it in the name of. Well done, sir. I didn't tar everyone with the same brush, I just picked the character, rather well too, I reckon, of old Hossgrows. Bet he has a Confederate flag in the back of his pickup up too...and secretly runs a grindr account! Anyhu, back to the weed...and standing up strong for what we believe in. No Battles were won on cowardice!
