I know this has been asked but I haven't really understood completely. I have a plant started in a 4" container with good FFO soil. I almost lost this plant to what I think was over watering but I'm not sure. From reading here on the forums, I'm guessing I was watering to little to often? The plant is looking good again and ready to water tomorrow. Should I just soak the soil and wait to water again when the soil is almost dry or what? I'm starting to feel a little less intelligent each day๐Ÿคช . I have not been able to get a plant to grow past a few weeks without wilting and croaking. I'm betting it's the way I'm watering. This one is giving me another chance and I'd love to get it to keep growing. Thanks, Sean

It depends on your pot size. I use a 7 gallon fabric pot for my grows. But have also used 3-5 gallon pots.

I find that a good starting point is to water 1 gallon ever 2 days and see how much runoff you get on the second day watering a full gallon.

You want about a third of what you water the plant with to runoff. If you get substantially less than that then increase your watering to daily gallon. If thatโ€™s too much than try 1.5-2 gallons every 2 days and see how that goes.

Play with it a bit because different strains/genetics need more water and different RH levels cause soil to dry more quickly.

Edit: I just realized your plant is likely in the seedling phase from what youโ€™re described. In that case a gallon may be too much.

What type and size of container is your plant in?

Also information such as the type of soil you are using and your waters PH level are useful things to know when asking a question like this. That and a picture says a thousand words.

It helps us all help you if we can see the plant in question.

Right now it's just in a 5" fiber container. I thought it was 4". The soil is Fox Farm Ocean with 25-30% Perlite. The plant is White Widow

Is the plant on the bed post for the picture or is that itโ€™s grow environment?

Just for picture
Just making sure.

When you are watering make sure there is runoff. And since you are using ocean forest I would heavily advice against feeding the plant for at least 4-5 weeks as that soil runs hot (high in nutrients).

Also, you will need to transplant that plant in about 1-2 weeks into at least a 3-5 gallon pot for it to be able to grow properly.

I did get a 5 gal. fabric pot as it was recommended to me. I thought I only had room for a 3 but that's not that much of a different as far as room goes. I'll give it a good watering tomorrow. Thank you for the help
