I would think it's faster to cut/clone the traditional way and that's why we don't see air grafting very often. But if you could turn one monster outdoor tree into three monster trees... I can maybe see something there.

Not sure why it's called air layering. Does seem like an interesting cloning technique, though. I could imagine a good sized mother with those air layering wraps all over here. You could then just snip'em all off at the same time and drop'em in pots.

You can do that to clone plants and keep you legal numbers down. Once they have roots in dirt they count as 1 plant.....while grafted they don't count....In some places it was a way to skirt regulations.
