Hello folks. I'm in New Zealand and this is my first post here. I'm trying to find out what has happened to my latest batches of clones, which are heading for death and disaster. I started growing again under lights a couple of years ago and for the past 12 months, I've been growing clones originating from one plant. The strain is called Money Maker. I've had no real problems outside of not enough light which has now been rectified. However with my last two batches of clones, taken about six weeks apart and numbering a dozen in total, they've just about all had a slight discoloration in the leaves from the start but appeared otherwise quite healthy. But then a few weeks ago, with the most advanced and apparently healthy plants, the leaves started dying and as you can see from the latest pic taken today (1071), they are doomed. I know this is not nutrient or light burn as I've seen that before. What I am wondering, having been told that with each new generation of clones, you weaken the strain, have I gone too many generations and weakened the strain so much that it's allowed a disease in? I think this last lot may be on the third and fourth generations. Basically I haven't done anything differently, but I've quickly got a very different result. Cheers Frank

No pics posted but I don't think what you've been told is accurate. I can see where maybe SOME of it's vitality may have dissipated but there are people who have kept mothers alive for years without ill effect.

Is there anything you've changed in your process? You said you changed the lighting in your mother room. Are you using that light for cloning also? Even though you're not burning them they may not like the intensity.

Hard to tell without knowing some particulars on how you were doing it before successfully and what you were/are using now that is different.

Hello RootsRuler. I thought I had uploaded photos but I've given that another go. Not used to how this website works yet. I did have two areas going with 100w LED full spectrum lights in each one. But now I've got 200w in each one and I'm going to increase that to 400w when needed. I do the clones under 24hr fluorescant lights and when they're away, I transfer them to the LEDs with 8 hrs of darkness.

Does the soil have enough nutrient to keep it growing? What soil are you in? Do you amend or recharge soil?

Mom pics look like some sort of deficiency. Did the leaf die off happen from bottom up or whole plant?

I use top quality Oderings potting mix in buckets for a start and when they're ready to go into bigger pots (40 litre) and turn, I'll use a cheaper potting mix. Basically when a leaf reaches a point when it's not going to grow anymore, it starts dying. It's not around the growing tips. But you can have what appears to be a really healthy plant at 2-3 months with no discoloration in the leaves, and overnight it will start turning for the worse and be on its last legs within weeks. I've just had a chat to a mate who has been helping and he cited the only 'variable' in the equation was that we noticed some plants a few months were getting attacked and were riddled with ants. He thinks they've brought a disease in and it's spread from plant to plant,
