Good day to you all. This is my first post and hopefully many more. I am just an average old man trying to grow his own medicine and finding therapy in the process. I have grown many times before but have been hit or miss during harvest. I have always started my countdown on flip day, but have read that flower truly doesn’t start until 1 to 2 weeks after flip. So based on that information I feel like I am closer to dialing it in. I’ve always used a jewelers loop but now have got a digital magnifier, which has blown my mind. Anybody willing to share any insight or opinions on whether you would harvest based on these photos? I felt like they were ready a week ago, but I’ve also read that once you think they’re ready, to give it another week or two. It’s been 10 days since that initial assessment. Thank you in advance. Happy growing.

A picture of the whole bud and plant would be helpful. I see a lot of white pistils, a fair amounts of clear trichs, and no amber, so I’d say, without seeing more pics, that you’re got a couple-few weeks to go.

What Phyto said. Plus... I'm an old dude too :) I'll give you a rule of thumb that I've followed since the beginning... grow the leaves off it. I usually don't pull out a mag glass until the plant is in fade (fan leaves are turning yellow even though nutes haven't changed). Then I start to pay attention. Until then? Steady and consistent feeding, lights, environment. The other thing that might help is to max a plant or 5. Like literally grow them until their leaves fall off and poke and prod and mess with them till your heart's content. This way you get to experience every stage without the stress of "am I doing this right?!". The thing no one told me is that all of this uncertainty is resolved by experience. So... go experience. Once you've seen it, you know it, right?

Bud... at the end it's hard to leave on the vine because you want to experience all that you've put into the plant. Reality is that until those sugar leaves start to fade, you've pretty much not maxed the plant yet. When the sugars start to fade and the fans have fallen off, chances are pretty high that your trichomes are more amber than not.

I have a plant up now that has bud on it the size of small pine cones. Everything on it is still green. It's in its swell time. They just keep blowing up fatter and fatter, spitting frost as it goes. I'm not getting in its way lol :)))) Until the fan leaves fade... and the sugars start to tip, then I'll pull out my fiskars and snip snip snip :D

Wow, I appreciate the insight. Very helpful. I’ll definitely wait for the fade. Still kind of new despite a few grows under my belt. I’ll include a photo of the canopy as well. Thanks again for both of your responses. Btw. Phylos genetics from ILGM 4 gelato sunrise and 4 sweet tartz. Organic nutes (Dr earths 444 and 289) , worm castings and ph’d dechlorinated water in a coco blend. Again, still much to learn, but it’s become so therapeutic indoor farming lol. Most will become edibles with some smoke. Probably 1/3 ratio. Thanks again.

Another old guy here. I use to wait for amber trichs but once they start to go amber they are degrading. These days once all the trichs are opaque the harvest window has opened and I'll harvest within a week or so.

I've found little/no difference other than less time in flower.
