I have a few questions. First pic has my leaves curling up and canoeing pretty bad, second pic is the same strain. I think it’s light/ humidity related. I have an 800 w light on full blast, about 2 feet from the top bud on the plant that is curling. Temps have been low 80s and humidity roughly 60. Recently I have dropped to mid low 70s and humidity to 50ish. This plant has been giving me these curled leaves from the beginning of veg. These are “tester” seeds from Humboldt- red velvet cross with something. All in build a soil 3.0 - second run - re amended with craft blend roughly 30 days. Fed synthetic nutes 4-5 times when I mis timed my top dress.

Second question, my super stretchy plant is looking very airy. I believe I should have lollipoped a lot more aggressively. Strain is black gorilla - same soil same conditions

Third is this seedling I had dry out while I was on vacation. I almost tossed it but decided to see what happens, this is the result. The following picture is her sister who also went through the same thing, but held out much better through the drought. I thought she would come back faster though… the bleached leaves don’t seem to be going away. This one I have no idea what’s going on since her sister looks great.

Thanks fam

The first pic I would attribute to to much light and or heat.

The stretchy one. You did fine with the defoliation IMO. Just the way she flowers. She will swell up and fill in.

Yeah lollipoping will have no effect on the buds being airy. Low light conditions can make them airy however some are just like that & with the curling I would put down to being to close to the light or too hot

black gorrila is supposed to be indica they look more like sativas.

Maybe you’ve a pheno or it’s not stable being tester seeds excpect anything mind

Leaf curling can result from the stomata on the underside of the leaves opening wide. High VPD can cause it.

I think this is what I have going on… I have had humidity around 60ish but temps did get to mid 80s.. possibly the pheno just wanted lower VPD?

Maybe. I just put it out there as a possibility. Lowering the temperature and the humidity slightly might help -- something like 78º and 55% RH is worth a try. There are VPD charts on the web that are a good resource.

Interesting, the black gorilla should have been stable… and the red velvet is further away from light than black gorilla, yet black gorilla has no lead curling?

Black gorilla might be showing signs of light stress by being so airy ?

If that’s tge

thanks for the reply , I took some clones and am gonna give it another try next run with lower temps.

I heard higher temps = more active microbes / living soil. Obviously this is a range, but I was under the assumption that when in the correct VPD temps up to 85-88 are better for fast veg?

Maybe someone can correct my bro science

Yeah bro science
A lot of blogs written about cannabis aren’t written by growers leading to folks coping & more bad information it’s like a mine field.
With manufacturers of lights recommending stupid distances of 12 inches away on 100% when in reality that’s gonna bleach the leaves & cause other light strsss issues.

VPD is a guide.

it doesn’t take in the plants preference factors with each plant performing differently even within the same strain.

Anyway 82-85f is way to high
The max I’d run is 80f the optimal is more around 75-77.

The leafs curling would definitely be from the heat as said each performs differently some can take more heat without freaking out to much we’re as some prefer it cooler

@LoveGrowingIt nailed it tbh

Thank you, that was my gut instinct.. and you’re dead on, my light is 12-24 inches from the canopy depending on strain. Full blast 100% 800 watts… I always have the voice in my head telling me to turn down the lights, and my heart tells me to blast them with light. This is also causing the heat issue, as I can’t keep the temps below 82 with my tent wide open with the light full blast.

My biggest issue I’m having is wanting to give the plants more than they can handle: nutrients, over watering, over lighting, etc. learning to let the plants just do what they want instead of playing god…

Yeah I get it we’ve all been there
Over loving the plants
It’s a adventure imo
Try hike that light up to 24-36” away & definitely turn it down to 75%

I tried mine once on full blast when switching from the old halide/hps it didn’t work out well.

Ever scince then I don’t go above 75%
It’s pretty much the standard not to have leds on max setting

Appreciate the tips. It is an adventure of endless learning!

Will be turning the lights down for sure… I also won’t be mad about getting some extra life out of my light (;
