Again, I know very little about growing and cultivation. So I am hoping somebody that does know will share their thoughts.

So I have a buddy that grows. He uses and auto weed trimmer. This one to be specific:

He said he uses cooking oil spray to keep shit from sticking. I was utterly disgusted when he told me this and wished he hadnt. I said nothing because I know nothing about the process.

So, to you guys and gals that do use an auto trimmer, is this common practice?

I asked ChatGPT, and this was the reply:

My Question
is it common practice to use cooking oil spray in a cannabis trimmer?

ChatGPT said:

It's not typically common practice to use cooking oil spray in a cannabis trimmer, but some people do it occasionally to keep the blades lubricated and prevent the plant material from sticking. The idea is to help the trimmer run more smoothly, especially when trimming a large amount of cannabis.

However, it’s important to be cautious about what you use for lubrication. Many people prefer food-grade oils like coconut oil or other natural options, while others might opt for trimmer-specific lubricants designed for this purpose. The issue with using cooking oil spray is that it can potentially leave a residue that might be difficult to clean and could affect the taste or quality of the cannabis if not properly cleaned off.

If you decide to use any kind of oil, make sure you clean the trimmer thoroughly afterward. Would you be using it for a personal harvest or something larger scale?

MY REPLY:
No. I wopuld not use it at all. I am asking because I heard of this. I dont think it is a good idea

ChatGPT said:

Yeah, I totally agree with you—it doesn't sound like the best approach. Using something like cooking oil spray could introduce unwanted residue and, as you mentioned, it could impact the flavor or purity of the cannabis. Cleaning a trimmer properly is already a bit of a task, and adding oils could just complicate it further.

It’s always better to stick with tools or cleaning solutions that are specifically designed for cannabis trimmers. Some trimmers even have self-lubricating mechanisms, so there’s no need for additional sprays or oils. Are you considering trimming a batch soon, or just curious about the practice?

I think Chat GPT is a Narc, what's with all the questions? lol.

Also won't the trichomes breakdown the second any kind of oil touches them? They aren't water soluble, but oil will dissolve them.

I don’t think so! Maybe not a big deal if you’re going to eat it!
