Also, along with the new “late flower pistils” I’ve noticed the start of some fox tailing. I believe this is supposed to happen with the GMO strain. Kinda cool seeing all this starting to happen so late into flower.

11 weeks and 2 days into flower. She seems to have recovered from her nutrient lock. Lots of new growth and buds starting to swell. But she is late into flower. Curious to see if she’ll go longer than twelve weeks. Trichomes on top still appear clear unless my eyes are missing something. Please chime in if I am. I’m new to this. What I have seen today is a definite increase in density and length of the trichomes. Also, the buds in the lower canopy really seem to be taking off. All with big new white pistils. Might have a staggered harvest.

Hello farming community!! I know this is a long post. But I really need some help here with a possible “staggered” harvest on a plant that’s had an interesting life thus far with a fairly bad case of nutrient burn and lockout around week 2 of flower that really stunted her bud growth. On top of that this is a long flowering strain, 12 weeks, and that seems to have given me some options where she appears to have maybe reset her flowering clock slightly on the lower bud sites. Those areas seem to have exploded with new growth and new pistils and seems to be at different stages of ripening on the top vs bottom.

I’m posting a few pics showing trichomes and would love to know the communities thoughts on whether or not the top foot and a half of buds are ready to be taken off. With the nutrient burn the little tiny tips of the buds got a little brown like the larger leaves and it’s making it hard for me to tell if these are real “amber” colored trichomes or just ones that are close to the burn at the tip of the tony leaves that make up the bud and aren’t really amber at all. But it also looks like the they are more clear than white which may mean I’m early. Just confused as hell at this point on what to do.

The entire canopy is a little over 4’ tall. The upper buds, about a foot and a half, are looking almost, or possibly all the way, ready to pull. But I need some guidance on doing this right so that I can make sure the bottom buds keep growing and swelling.

1.) So my first real question has to do with the color of the Trichomes at the top bud sites. Are they really amber in some places or is it a clear trichome reflecting the red colored hair and also some of the Trichomes turning a little amber next to the nutrient burn at the top of the little bud leaves in a few places. Thoughts???

2.) Second question…. how would some of the more “experienced growers” handle the harvest now. Stagger it and try to get some more weight out of the lower nugs? Or just cut it all down and hang it.

I really need some help here. I make sure to do my research before I reach out for help and just couldn’t find what I’m looking for.

Thank you in advance.

Yes indeed, they are. I’m pretty sure this is a characteristic of the GMO strain.

Sure thing. I’ll try to post one tomorrow. In the meantime I do have a few pics of the lower bud sites looking into the canopy from the side. These buds are probably three to four feet from the top of the canopy. I’d say there has to be around 500- 1,000 of these lower buds. These buds are fairly fluffy but they are getting bigger and also seem to be very frosty. Right here, on these lower bud sites, is where I’m seeing some vigorous new growth on the bud sites and lots of new white Trichomes. Maybe my math is off but I don’t think so. I’ll try to maybe post a video showing the plant tomorrow. That may give a better idea of size, etc.

Here ya go. A pic of the whole plant and a movie to boot! Ignore the green wires. Using them to hold the branches straight for better light penetration to lower buds sites. The top buds are small, dense and completely covered in trichomes. Even the stems around them are covered in Trichomes as you’ve seen from the earlier pics in this grow journal. Regardless of how things turn out it looks like it would be a hell of a lot of work to trim these smaller fluffier nugs that are making up the lower 2/3 of the plant. But they are very frosty and I think they’d make some excellent hash. Could even shoot to do some “fresh frozen” with the bottom three feet or so of the canopy. And then just dry the upper buds. She still seems to be putting on some weight and I’m out of town till late tomorrow night so I’ll check her Trichome color again on Thursday and probably decide whether to chop the whole thing down or just do the upper third, drop the light down, and let the lower canopy keep growing for another couple weeks.

If anyone has any experience with doing a multi stage harvest and how it usually turns out I’d appreciate hearing about it. All recommendations or suggestions with this scenario will be appreciated.

Haven’t heard back from anyone on my questions related to a staggered harvest so I’ve been picking ChatGPT’s brain. My plan now is that in two days I’ll pull a few of the upper most branches off with the buds that appear to be ripe making sure that I cut just below a node for each branch I take off and then try to even out the upper canopy so the light can be lowered about 18”. I’ll then run it for about another week and a half on the lower canopy until those buds are ready. It’s the best I can do considering I’m going out of town from Dec 23rd till Jan 2.

I’d still love to hear from anyone that has experience with staggered harvests.

Today’s pics of the upper buds:

Hello, that is an amazing plant. Looks outstanding. Sounds lile you have a great plan for the harvest. Take what is ready and leave what is not, usually a week or so. The extra light will surely fatten those lower buds. I really loved the video, where one can appreciate this beauty.

Phase one of staggered harvest complete. At least the part of it where you chop the branches off.

I flushed for three days prior to harvesting the top and will continue to flush with ph balanced RO water until January 2nd when I return from vacation. The lower half will show me her stuff at that point and I’ll see if I hit the mark.

I find if you have plants to go straight into it’s space your better off harvesting it all as the extra week or 2 u could be near flipping the next lot but if no plants goin straight in it’s spot then for sure harvest in 2 sections trick is cut all that stuff that’s not gettin light off so you go through just snip the tops and your done but that is a beast of a plant well done in my experience the lowers don’t get much fatter they just rippen up a bit more.

So I do have four clones, same as this current one, that are ready to go. They’re topped and have gotten much bigger than I anticipated due to the craziness with this first plant. They’re in a seperate veg room but quickly outgrowing their space. They’re were over 4’ when I topped them at about the fifth node. I’m really just playing around and learning as much as I can with this first one. I started it while I was building the room (it’s a work in progress now). This is my second grow ever and my first indoor so I’ve had lots to learn. I was truly surprised at how much I got off the top half…..even with my nutrient burn episode. And everything is just completely covered in sticky trichomes. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to hang it all tonight so I’ve got it all laid out on parchment paper completely covering a king sized bed. There’s gonna be a lotta trimming.

Here’s a few pics of the first half of the plant that I chopped & dried. These pictures are mostly of untrimmed buds right after pulling them off the strings. But I did trim about two ounces of clean bud and I’d say based on that weight and the remaining branches that I should get at least a half pound off this top half. This section, the top half of the plant, flowered for 12 wks & 1 day and it dried for 10 days while I was out of town. The buds are small, had a bad case of nutrient burn at about week two or three, but the trichome coverage is phenomenal and the smell is about as rank as anything I’ve ever smelled before. My girlfriend says the smell is starting to make her nauseous. It is so much stinkier than when it was in the room growing now that it’s dry. Pretty amazing actually.

Here’s a couple photos to end this grow journal on. These buds are from the top half of the plant and they flowered for 12 wks & 1 day. The lower half went for 13 wks and 4 days. I’m trimming about an oz per night and I’m thinking I’ll get a little over a lb off the entire plant once all is said and done. I’m sure I’ll be giving a lot of this away as there is no possible way I’ll smoke it all.

I may still provide some photos of what the buds from the lower half of the plant look like, once they’re fully dried and I’ve had a chance to trim some of them.

Oh, and I think I’ll submit this to a local lab for testing. Just because I want to know.

So I’m running two grams of the cured buds from the top half of the plant down to Brightbox Labs for a “potency” test. I may run a test on the bottom half in a week or two to see the difference. I imagine it’ll provide some useful information if there’s a difference between the top and bottom halves with regard to potency. Top half of the plant was harvested at 12 wks and 1 day and the bottom half was harvested at 13 wks and 4 days. Will let y’all know when I get the results back.

Test results are back for the top half of the plant.

Brite Box Labs (Subcontracted Analysis Via: Rose City Laboratories in Oregon)
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Thc: 28% (decarboxylated)

CBD: 0.0866 (decarboxylated)

Moisture: 9.37%

This was a two stage harvest where I took the top of the plant at 12wks 1day & the bottom half at 13wks 4days. The sample for the top half was sent to Rose City Labs in Oregon. Grow results are as follows:

Clean trimmed flower:
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Top half - 5.75 oz
Bottom half 7.25 oz
——————————
Total haul: 13 0z

And a couple pounds of very clean trim and small buds for ice water hash. Will update the grow post with hash quantity and hash pics once completed.

Happy Growing!!!

Working to get my VPD in the right range. Shooting for about 1.2-1.4 but I keep running a little low then get it back up to where it needs to be. This grow room is inside my house but it does not have a dedicated HVAC vent. Which I may need to add so I can keep the temps around 75. Or I’ll need to add a little heater that I can tie into the room and have it automatically kick on and off to keep me at 75. I am using some AC infinity products and I believe they have a little heater you can tie into their automation system which has served me well. If anyone has some suggestions that maybe I’m missing, on keeping the rooms temp where I need it, let me know. The solution needs to be automated.

Below is my current equipment:
HLG Scorpion RSpec FR with a Telos controller - Currently have my ppf set at 800 going into 3rd week of flower.
HLG UV Bar - added at flower
Floraflex Matrix System w/5 Gallon Pots. Currently only using one pot due to the size of this first plant but the system is ready to run four plants on the next go round with a much shorter veg cycle.
FloraFlex 3/4 hp pump
AC Infinity Controller 69 Pro
AC Infinity exhaust fan with carbon filter plumbed to outside.
AC Infinity 9” Oscilating Fans (x2)

Low Vpd is much better than high Vpd.

I wonder if you can get a more detailed test
Like heavy metals ect

Uk has a long long way to go & it’s not getting better if anything in the last few weeks the old bill seemed to have ramped it up
