Bean_boy's ong(r)owing diary

Made some green dragon last night, it worked! Had a good night watching Airplane! The one pictured is getting some kind of lockout I think, the EC keeps rising. Even if it's as low as 1000. Gonna read up on it Some of the pistils are turning brown, which...

Some of the pistils are turning brown, which could be a deficiency I think? Ph is 5.9

Looking good there! Do you have them tyed to the net in any manner or are you just using it for support?
You may want to clean up her skirts and get some air moving underneath before the dreaded mold & rot come for a visit.

I just have the net holding down the branches, I'm not sure if that's an approved method or not?

And I'll clean up underneath, thanks for the tip! I've got my fan pushing pretty hard too

After reading your journal, I can't believe how your plants look at harvest time. I'm trying aspirin in the reservoir too!

lol... thank you. I grew the same weed for 5 grow in a row. Now I have switched to something new and boy howdie things are different!. Just enough to throw a few curves. So now i'll do these until i get proficient; then i'll do something else. Those were a hybrid 50/50, these are more Indica oriented.

The biggest so far is level of nutes needed. The Crystal Meth. requires a LOT more cal-mag. So far my standard dosage looks like i've done nothing at all. I am trying now to change up my Cal-Mag mixture. I am growing Crystal Meth & Candy Cane in side-by-side tent grows. The crystal meth looks sick as hell the Candy Cane is doing much, much better.

Good to know, it's something else to watch out for

The seedlings seem to be doing pretty well, only on pH tap water still

On the other hand... This white widow seems to be prematurely turning brown/orange? Im going to keep looking for signs of being a hermie

✌

Nice! They're (seedlings) now under the screw-in LEDs?

I'd maybe think about cutting down your nutrient load... maybe even doing a flush. The bottoms of the plants look pretty burnt and crispy and with the pistils crisping up like that, too..?
Just a thought... Ansel would probably have a better opinion here.

Yes they are! I'm really impressed, I don't think I'll be going back to CFLs for this. The area is too confined and heat is a concern. Thank you for the pointer on the LEDs, and being able to pop the bulbs off.

I'll back way down on the nutrients and see how they look. I'm still learning how to feed them. Do they normally feed heavy during stretch, and taper down after? I appreciate the help!

Eh.. not the person to ask probably.

I imagine it's strain-dependent. I'd bet some like higher feed during veg, some like higher feed during earlier flower, some like higher feed during later.
What I do is just start at 1/4 to 1/2 the recommended dose on the packaging and respond to the plants from there.. just trying to keep them at a lush green - not too light or dark but usually erring on the lighter side because it's easier to feed them more than flush. Not a technical method at all, but it's been reliable for me.

I've only ever used Botanicare's CNS17 duo, so I'm not too in-the-know with all the various additives and whatnot that a lot of companies push.
I've never used a PPM or EC or TDS meter... which, I guess I'm just seriously lucky or the CNS17 formula is foolproof.

Totally agree! i too used the CNS-17 line for the first 5 grows (it is tough to mess it up); THEN i began to monkey with the mixes.!!

I also agree on using only 1/4 to 1/2 of what is listed on the bottle.

I'll look into the CNS17, that's good to know that it's proven!

After I found out how NOT to dry them, I ended up with this. Probably 3/4 a half gallon mason jar. They're curing now. Not a spectacular yield, but better than last time, and most importantly, improvements to be made for the next go-around.

The one in the tent looks to be putting on weight, I drastically cut the master blend to around an EC of around 850, pH 5.9

Thanks again for all who have helped

I screwed up again! I accidentally set the EC meter to ppm, which gave confusing results at the time. I burned the shit out of the seedlings, so I flushed with lower EC solution. I was also overfeeding the white widow in flower....
Always learning ....
Happy Thanksgiving!

Trying CFLs again at the moment, they're impossible to make look not-ghetto... Seedlings sprung back from my mistreatment

Here they are today, growing very vigorously. Tying them down to try mainlining, since I have a recurring problem with them growing too tall and bushy

The other last white widow, mostly clear trichs still from what I can tell. The pistols are mostly orange though

Hello Freindly growing there.
i geuss i wont get 100% ently why so many ride the hydro train, soil is kind of self balancing self reparing if you let it.
As beluga said wisely take the recomended instactions of absolute max if you max evrithing else out, like over 800+ ppfd low humidity high dissipation high water uptake then you could use max instructions with the right strain dont do on autos (my amnesia Auto was very fast overfed) while the Photo Durban Poison wanted more of everithing :D
With these CFLs i would stay on the safe site and give 1/4 not even 1/2 until you see it grow slowly and slightly pale then go for 50% more go incremental make small changes and use chemical metering if your electrical fucks up.
Use the slogen of the IT never change a running system.
Go bro :)

I appreciate the advice! Thanks for commenting. I just stick to hydro because it's easier to be more discreet. With my living situation, it would draw unwanted suspicion to bring bags of dirt in. I'm very interested in organics.

I'll keep an eye on things! They seem to be liking the dosage of about 1100 EC right now!

Best wishes

The time has come, the bittersweet time of harvest. Tuning into the local classic country station, trimming fan leaves, and drying.

Thank you, Mama ❤
