Hi Farmers ! I would like to know how everyone likes to pop there seeds... I usually scruff up with a fingernail file ...soak in bottled water..as soon as sprout shows ...into a paper towel ..sometimes in a baggie in dark cabinet or on something warm ...cable box ..top of coffee pot.. etc... recently have had problems with trying to pop older seeds... even tried hydrogen peroxide... I have lately been making my own seeds and have noticed they need to sit close to a month to have successful popping.. So please all experts chime in with your secrets !!! Much Appreciate... M

I find my seeds pop better with about 6 weeks dryttime . I always just start right off in a moist paper towel in a ziplock on top of my t5 ballasts.good beans will always pop within 25-30 hours for me.

I always used the paper towel method and tap H2o for many years, but on my last one,I just put them in the mix and skip that step,100% germ rate.

Good idea for a thread M,im going to scuff those last MTF beans i have and try throwing them directly in some soil and see what happens.Im a little worried after you batted zero that i may have waited to long which scares me because i have beans alot older than those, lol. My usual method is wet paper towel and a baggy on the cablebox.

...i sow my beans directly into moist coco in 9oz solo cups with a second cup taped up top as a temporary humidity dome which gets removed as soon as the seedling emerges from the coco.

...oh, and Medusa, i also scuff some of my beans, not all need it, but i use an old trick with a small, empty box of stick match's and a small piece of 200 or 300 grit sandpaper, you just cut the sandpaper to fit into the box, then you put your beans inside, close it up and shake shake shake, lol.

peace, bozo

i use a wet papertowel in a tupperware sandwich container. On top of my computer in a cardboard box
My cable box gets too hot.
when they start to show tails, I drain off excess water and wait for the tails to get about a 1/2 to 3/4inch long. then, i stand them up in the hole in the soil :)

How long do you "paper towel folks" wait till you put em in the soil or coco?

the towel is still wet. i just dont want to drown them
kinda like you taking them out of the bottled water and into the towel,
I drain the water when I see tail..but, most of the time, I wait till the tails are kinda long
I like to see whats happening...how vigorus the seedling is

I hate not knowing whats happening under the soil!
I barley cover the helmet when I plant em..I need a long root to bury :)

these have been in the container 4 days now (long time)
I was worried...but the're making progress now

Im going to wait at least till tomorrow to plant the one with the tail
but I know they will drown if I leave them in there too long

Direct sow is the best.
I love watching a sprout as much as the next farmer, but after reading:
http://www.mandalaseeds.com/Guides/Germination-Guide
I sow.

In addition, water uptake can easily drown a seed.
