Whats up Farm
The last two runs I have been having bud rot problems. The site im helping to manage is running Kens Gdp and the bud rot starts right at the beginning of week 7 or end of week 6. The first run my humidity was at 50% which is standard for the room. The second run I even got it down to like 45% with the help of 4 dehu's. Humidity is not the problem. The problem is that the buds get sooooo dense and fat that it is easy for the Rot to get a foothold. This is the only strain that I have consistently ran into this problem with; it is for sure the densest. Does anyone know any good preventative measures that will help me because I can pretty much assure that around week 6/7 it will hit again. The first preventative step was putting hepa filters on my intakes and did extensive cleaning. Sulphur burns? Eagle 20? anyone have similar problems? I have read alot about foliar feeds with ACT teas but am scared to spray anything after about week 6 because thats when the buds really fill out and get dense. Thanks in advance for feedback

I forgot to mention there is massive air movement, the air in that room exchanges every 2 minutes. and both tables have two ocillating fans each. This is for sure grey mold/ bud rot I have never had a PM issuse. Will a Early neem treatment be able to hold the Bud rot off till late harvest?

Strain selection is your number one line of defense against bud rot (or any pest issues for that matter.) I can't believe no one mentioned that. You might try Oxidate, that is usually my stand-by for mold issues. I wouldn't foliar with the ACT either. I use it extensively for soil drenches, but its use as a foliar is very questionable. According to quite a few peer reviewed studies ACT does NOT suppress pathogens - if anything it encourages them. My own persona experience has been along these lines - I have applied ACT via foliar for quite a few pests and it doesn't do jack.

I'm in accord w/ Blaze- strain selection is the #1 consideration. I run neg air have a beefy exhaust system, keep the rooms breezy and still have to keep a close eye on a couple of the denser strains that I run. I've never had an indoor bot epidemic, (have had my share outdoors, though), so I just chop out the infected area or take the whole plant out if I'm in doubt and don't try to combat it. An epidemic would be another matter, however.
A couple of thoughts.
-I use the neg air for climate control- the temps are fairly consistent in my area so no ACs or heaters are necessary. However, the humidity in a marine layer varies and it goes up after watering so I tweak my temp control to compensate for those changes the best I can, particularly during the last couple of weeks of a run when the bot is most likely to show up.
- watch over-spill. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that the last bit of bot that I got was a combination of the above humidity problem plus some errant water splashing up on a cola late in flower.
- use alcohol when chopping infected out. I put it on my gloves, dip my scissors in it in between cuts and segregate the bad stuff to a separate space. Spores are omnipresent and they don't need any extra help from us to get around.

my 2c I don't know if that helps or not. good luck.

Yeah, genetics! And the last two weeks when the plants are ripening, don't over water!! Don't water late in the light cycle, those two things will help a lot...
Watering less more often or just the last two weeks plants don't need nearly the water they did when bulking up, ime
And, keep plant spacing proper, clean bottoms, clear big fan leaves or medium sized leaves the last two weeks that could hinder air flow. And the most important, properly screened/filtered intake air should help..

Yea I definetly feel you about the genetics. I only have this problem with 2 strains GDP and Grape Ape due to the extreme density and size. By buds almost doubled in size the last two runs due to the higher perlite to coco ratio and more frequent waters. The buds are about the same circumference as a 20oz soda bottle and dense as rocks. A whole lb looks like a hp. Its crazy. I think im goin to phase these two strains out because even with extreme air flow, a clean room and humitity under control I get it. I want to do some UVC expirements tho!!

i find with strains that get budrot its best to top and train so ya got more smaller buds than few massive buds, i dont get rot anymore!

I know this is an old post, but ain't nuttin wrong wit ol... I run into the same problem and I too am running Ken's original cut... I believe, as most have said, that this is a strain issue as well as some environmental issues. I am running a purple jolly rancher strain from the bay right next to the GDP and it is laughing the whole way through, zero issues... and the PJR is waaaay more dense.
