I'm still not seeing any bugs - ladies not included... I'm thinking I used too strong a vinegar solution. They are recovering. I think.

did you cover the medium before spraying?
that damage is from the roots that are damaged/burned,..

So what all should I have on hand to deal with pests? One of the listed above, plus what else? Neem oil? How do we prevent these issues so we don't need those?

It depends how aggressive you want to be and your comfort level using pesticides. Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew (spinosad), Neem, insecticidal soap, herbal oils (peppermint based). If you're outdoors you also want BT. And then there's pyrethrins. I use Eight (Lambda Cyflorethin) which is a synthetic pyrethrin, wouldn't recommend that unless you use some care but the stuff has worked for me when spinosad and neem have failed. By use with care I mean rinsing the plant off after a couple days to purge residual and never ever using it on buds. While it's rated safe in the garden for edible vegetables, nobody dares say it's safe to smoke vegetables treated with it. When I've got buds on branches I'll only use spinosad.

So lady bugs or predator mites?

How would you treat them?

your ok, aphids are simple to kill in veg. insecticial soap kills any soft bodied insect, and it's a hell of alot cheaper than predatory mites.
been there done that.
also just squish anything you see

They've bounced back nicely. I'm way to anxious and will probably flip in a week or so.

I use a vinegar spray to kill weeds in the sidewalk cracks or ants in the kitchen. It’s generally not safe to spray directly on plants. As I’m sure you’ve now figured out. I’d give them a rinse down with water and hopefully they’ll come back around. They’re pretty resistant plants.

I've used Vinegar to kill weeds. It's supposed to smoother the leaves, especially on sunny days.

Something I read early on was to mix vinegar into my water bucket to lower pH. From various videos I picked up on filling a 5 gal bucket, add a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide and leave sit min 24 hours. The pH in my hose water post RV water filter runs around 7.6 - 7.7, I've seen/read that plants prefer 6.4 - 6.6 so I add some vinegar to water and I use this water on my outdoor plants. So far seems to work good.

I've found that pH begins to creep back up for whatever reason so I check my bucket often and have a small air bubbler in there. So far so good it seems but I'm still a rookie.
