Good morning everyone, im a new grower using modest low budget equipment. My plants for the most part are demonstrating strong progress however the first 3 finger leaves on one of my baby's are showing slight signs of what I assume to be, having done a little research, as early stages of a magnesium deficiency. Im using a 50/40/10 mix of grow sure (all purpose) with slow release nutrition, coco, and perlite. I havnt even considered nutes yet as I don't want to over feed them at this delicate stage. Ive ordered some cal mag and intend to use this lightly on my next watering in a few days time. I'll include photos of both plants to give context. Any advice would be amazing and hugely beneficial at this stage as im a new grower who is using this first grow as an experiment essentially, as an opertunity to learn rather than have the ambition to grow big juicy buds of a premium quality. Im not nieve enough to think I can grow perfect plants 1st time and really want to learn over time and take good advice from experienced growers like yourselves.

Hey Novichok420,
I would suggest starting some nutes at this point, however go slow with them. I always go at least half to a third of what the manufacturer recommends. Don’t sell yourself short on your grow, everyone starts somewhere. I would also consider some LST when she gets a little bigger. This would also include some topping of your new growth to promote more colas. I would do a little research on both of these topics. Keep us updated. Happy trails…..

Hey merkle,

Many thanks for the advice, ive gone ¼ feed on both nutrients and cal mag. Whatever the issue is, its progressive so im keeping everything crossed this does the trick butnill keep you updated either way. Im going to have a play around with LST, like you say when they grow a little bigger together with topping them at 5th or 6th node. Thanks again friend, be in touch!

Is your growing medium a mix of coco and peat based soil?

Howdy! Do you have a rough tally of how much ppfd is hitting the tops? If the light is extra intense it'll burn through cal and mag faster than the plant can restock it. Or, if your soil pH is sitting below 5.8 it puts cal and mag out of reach to the plant. Before you start adding stuff you might just want to check these two things, because a plant that young doesn't normally have much demand at all for cal and mag yet. Best of luck with your grow and keep us posted!

Where did you get the suggestion for this peat/coco mix? I like to read diaries and grow journals for data and mixing peat and coco is a very refined practically an art form for growing plants. It can be done but parts of the medium you mixed up actually work at cross purposes. Most folks doing this struggle with ph issues and oxygen saturation problems due to this mix.
Good luck.
For some help as this is NOT a lost cause hit the 3 horizontal bars in the upper left at the top. Navigate to forums and then grow diaries. Than use the spyglass to search for coco and peat mix and read the diaries for folks who can help with this mix.
Lots of tears in that section but some folks have success with this mix.
I respectfully say this. Asking for help from folks that do not mix coco and peat will be a waste of time. You can not have a really dryback as coco needs to remain damp and you can not maintain a wet pot as the bottom will die and Jack PH.
Good luck.

Never heard of or used that grow sure. If it has peat moss in it, that may be a problem as coco and peat mixec together usually cause some ph issues. Unsure if that's what is going on, but you might look into that.

Cant find this specific soil but i do grow in both soil and coco.

Coco is inert and will seal in nutes, like Mg and C, making it less available in the soil. It also holds on to loads of water.
Quick sum up is that you go through the soils nutes much faster when only using water. Especially Mg and C.

Since i've got no clue about this soil I cant specify how to go about nutes on this one.

That high ppfd might be your answer right there. An easy reference I use is 2-4-6-8. Seedlings should be 200, young plants 400, and mature/flowering between 600-800. So you would be on the high side for a full grown plant and I think its showing itself to have amazing stamina for that amount of juice. But I would back that off some, maybe check your light's documentation for the energy levels it puts out at varying distances so you can put it right where you like it.

Morning gardeners, firstly I'd like to extend a massive thank you for all your solid advice . I raised the lights l, dimmed them to about 40% so my ppfd reads 700. Began a light feeding with cal mag and canna boi nutes. These alterations seemed to have done the trick and they are bouncing back nicely. Lost of new nodes , new branched. One has been topped, gunna leave the other to experiment with topping at different stages. All in all we're looking to be back on track! I'll follow this with some photos later folks.

Overnight growth ️ man this is magic to see now that ive dialed in my set up. Ive let them dry out and going to transplant into pots twice this size. Im going to sack the coco off as I feel it complicates things a little too much. Replacing my medium with canna terra professional soil with some added perlite for drainage!
