Hi everyone

Been suffering with this deficiency for my last 2 grows since I've started using RO water, I need to use RO water because my source water is high in magnesium and lower in calcium and this was causing problems.

My last run I had 2 different strains one was worse than the other, this time I've got 2 different strains again one isn't showing a deficiency but the other is.

I'm growing in 2 separate rdwc system, I add 100ppm calcium and 40ppm magnesium to my RO water. I'm using advance nutrients ph perfect A&B at first I wasn't adding any calmag to my RO water because I thought I could use advance nutrients with RO water and without the need of calmag but on my last run I had to add it to try and get the deficiency under control so I've continued to do this.

I'm now on the start of week 3 flower, total ppm with a&b is 400 and ph 5.8 if I take ppm any higher the ppm start to rise over a 24 hour period.

I'm using quantum boards par is up to 500-700

Room temps are 28.5 - 29.5oC (83. 3 - 85oF)
Humidity 67-61%

Some leaves have rust spots, some have light green patches and nearly all have purple steams, this is a purple strain so not sure if that's why leaves steams are purple or if this is because of the deficiency?

I'm a little unsure if it's just one deficiency or more so I thought I'd ask for help instead of just adding more calmag incase they're both not needed...

Recommend checking underneath your leaves with magnification because I think you have mites

Mites are out in full force, or so it seems. Picture of the new growth? Coming in normal or kinda twisted and different? Can’t tell from your pics. Overall plants look healthy and vigorous. Hopefully some rdwc growers chime in.

This has been ongoing through several grows, so the mites are possibly causing the issue cuz everything else looks dialed in; although I could be wrong cuz it's been a long time since I've grown hydroponically

100% not mite lads but I can see where you're coming from it does look like it, I've been growing 15 years and even I thought it was on the last run in this room. Just took some new pics all taken under magnifying glass

All new growth is normal, just these rust spots and light green patchy bits on some of the leaves and purple steams

They're not white they just look it on the photos, if you look at the zoomed in photos I've done you can just make out that they are orange/rust colour dots

For example this photo they look like white dots, but when you really zoom in you can just make out its orange/rust colour. I'll try and get some clearer photos tomorrow but I know 100% it's not mite or any other bug, I have perfect eye sight never needed a magnifying glass to spot them

That's a orange rust spot as well but I was using my phone and a magnifying glass so it's hard to get a clear photo

I've got some more zoomed in and under a magnifying glass photos to see if anyone can find out what's going off.

Like I said I've got 2 different phenos it's the pheno on the left that is suffering the most the pheno on the right is showing this but only tiny bits in places you really have to look at all leaves to find any.

I've got 4 plants on the right and 4 on the left when I potted my cuttings up I broke one so on the right side I've actually got 3 phenos that are OK then I've got 1 pheno that is the same as the left side and this is showing the same symptoms as the left side even so it's 2 separate rdwc system....

Do you have a loupe Stealth? If so you can place it directly over your phone camera. Normally with a magnifying glass you have it a fair distance from your eye, as opposed to a loupe which you use real close.

I think the RO is the problem. I've never EVER had good luck with it on it's own, it has zero carbonates and doesnt buffer worth shit and you end up almost every time with Calcium issues. Cut the RO with enough tap water to get 150ppm or if the tap is suitable use it on it's own.

I can't use tap water for this reason in the email mate, I'll try using some tap water with RO and see what happens

Whatever this is its getting slowly worse this is exactly what happened last time, few weeks into flower when I start to increase light intensity but I'm only up to just over 600 par...

If there's any RO uses on here what ppm would you normally add for calcium and magnesium? I'm using roughly 100ppm calcium and 40ppm magnesium...
