After some consideration, I have decided that I can't imagine too much that is going to change my order of interest in these guys from the following: widow, short haze, big haze.

I also have rooted cuttings of all three and they are about ready to pop. So I am just going to collect pollen from all three and paint it on to individual branches of prospective moms in the next month or so. Should be doable.

Then I will spend the rest of the year finding out why one is better than another or whatever. Maybe. Idk. Basically from here I will be popping a couple more fems I want to try (Panama x Bangi Haze, Durban Poison, Golden Tiger, and maybe one more) and then some F1s for a while.

It just seems dumb to get rid of any of them when they all sound interesting in their own ways....the widow just has all the signifiers of potency I could want, the one haze has the dream NL structure that should be so hard to find (it is only 1/16 NL, right?), and the other one seems for all the world like a beast plant....but maybe too much of a beast plant. But maybe not, idk!

So their names are Walter the widow, Hal the NL-leaning haze, and Horace the bigger haze. Horace is a longer name than Hal and Horace Grant was a good, underrated basketball player in my youth that I liked because he wore rec specs like me at a certain age.

Looks like you'll have to collect pollen from both males, grow on your cuttings, use pollen from from both, and then decide which one, or you may decide to run both. Good thing is that you can save pollen, freeze it, not sure how long it will last though.

They are in separate tents in separate rooms. But despite my efforts.... idk lol.

Nice thing about personal use only and edibles for a backup plan.

Btw, updated smoke report in Kali china now with some cure and smoking the prime bud and not the bits lower down that were developed just enough: the sensory perception shift in the first hour is pretty wild. Making coffee felt kind of psychedelic.

It's quite powerful stuff.

Awesome. Good luck! I might get to those next run... Too many in the queue, and shit for plant count. When the powers that be set plant counts they sure never considered honest hobbyists, who want to pheno hunt and make a few seeds. At least it's legal...

I am watering the hazes with just pure water or trinity (every third watering), which i think of as refreshing the microbe population and giving it a potentially different balance as it resettles. The rest of their nutes come from the kelp meal/japanese maple (4-3-4) stack. The 4-3-4 on the japanese maple is slow release nitrogen and so i am skeptical as to how accurate that 4 (for Nitrogen) is in the balance at any given time since the release is reliant on microbe breakdown and hence....

I am super happy with how they look and so i am leaving well enough alone for now and the immediate future. I am on the lookout for P deficiency symptoms...but mostly I just want them green and happy and this is that for them right now.

Dad update!

Hal and Walter looking better and better w bud structure. Horace very thirsty. As you can see, he's been busy. Horace and hal both dropping loads of pollen.

Also took pics of the other widow i am flowering. He has definitely developed a hollow stem up higher and so my interest is growing a bit.

Hal

Horace the Huge (and thirsty)
Walter
Other Widow
Triple top!

So, time for another episode of Milson Thinks.

I will definitely have pollen from these guys to play with (I mean, I presently have it), and I have some ladies who are going now. I plan to do some pollination there both for line continuation purposes and in case any of the ladies are really special.

Then I have my next round going with the Sour Bubble, Panama, and Skunk (the North I popped didn't adequately survive my abuse....not their fault, mine).

Hoping to sex those in the next couple weeks and then pollinate a branch on each female and hope to find a girl I think is special there.

From there, I guess the question is....what?

I suppose the answer ought to be test these dads out. Or try them out. What would a test look like?'

The easy way is to pick my favorite strain from what I pop and, so long as it is not one of the widow or hazes, try seeds from each of Walter and Hal (almost certainly the first two I will try based on growth structure etc....as enticing as Horace is just as a specimen, his vigor looks like it could be problematic). Run them against each other and then see who I like better.

The thing is, they are way different as strains. Like the widow I am picking for potency, resin content, and hybrid vigor (because it comes from no afghani lines[Brazil & Southern India], it should have hybrid vigor with anything containing afghan etc). The haze is because of that haze high, as well as expecting hybrid vigor with the Colombian genetics.

In other words, a success would be different with each one.

Another idea is to just try each one with a strain matched to them and do it one at a time etc..... But then again, how do I do that? How many should I pop at once to give a dad a "fair shot?" Ten? What if it's the mom that sucks as a breeder even though she herself is great? Seems unlikey given my strain selection....

I think what is going to end up happening is I am going to try one of them out against something that sounds exciting and then see if it ends up exciting. If not, then the prospect of running another cross with that dad will just be less exciting to me and maybe eventually I will let that project die. While this makes future planmaking kind of dubious.....so be it. What I really don't want to do is build up huge chains of "if this works, then this" because inevitably that will get disrupted and I don't want to mourn silly attachments.

Timing wise, I am thinking I will have a ton of seeds to choose from that include my dad's pollen by the end of March. Possibly earlier. At that point, i will probably make my first drop with someone's progeny.

Fun!

In the meantime though, I will be sexing this group and then putting them into my flower tent along with my current three. I am anticipating there will be an overlap with the widow of a few weeks and then the hazes a bit after that.

Once THOSE are done, I will take stock and pick some seeds, I think. But in the mean time I would like to have something ready to flower.

So basically I am thinking about dropping a couple fems in about a month. I think that timing makes sense. Should be ready for the flower tent right around the time I need it and I can always slow it down on top if necessary based on what I am seeing with my current plants.

Hoo boy that got a bit rambly.

In conclusion, I think I am going to do what I want.
