I'm looking to buy two 4x4 lights and am debating between the HLG Rspec and the ChillLED x6.
I am replacing a metal halide setup I build myself a number of years ago (EE by trade). The heat and power draw is just too much. I'm also constantly afraid of accidently burning my house down.
The HLG panel is $775 while the ChillLED is substantially more at around $1150. Both claim similar output performance.
The ChillLED setup can modify it's spectrum slightly while the HLG is fixed.
The biggest feature in the ChillLED setup is an external driver which allows you to put the heat generating portion of your light outside the tent.
While cool, and well designed, i'm not sure the ChillLED is showing up with $375 dollars worth of extras. It may just be a case of good marketing but nominal difference in performance.
Currently I'm leaning toward the Rspec for no other reason than they have been around longer and hence might be present to fulfill their warranty.
Anyone have an opinion especially tempered by experience with either product?
Do you think the spectrum matter substantially for vegetative versus flowering stage? At the price of the ChillLED you could almost buy two of the HLG setup... an Rspec and a Bspec. I only have one tent at the moment, however.
If you have the cash I would buy the x600 DIY build from Chilled; that version is $999. You have significantly more headroom if you want to push CO2. A bar light gives better uniformity vs panels. Lastly, the Chilled light has a greater efficacy.

I'm not sure I follow as to why it gives me headroom on C02? Are you saving that because having the driver external lowers the heat into the tent?
I'm also a little suspect that the ChilledLEDs have better efficiency. Though what they are doing, buying samsung panels and integrating them, certainly seems to be the way to go.
The only problem is they are so damn expensive. Even at $1000 they are $250 more than the HLG panels. It does seem from the information available the HLG panels are worse. Basically they build their own PCB/Heatsink solution and its workable, but not up to par with what someone like samsung can bring to the table.
I guess i'd really like to hear if anyone has actually put their hands on these things.
