I am doing an experiment by placing rooted clones straight from a dispensary into discsrded plant( male or herm) in a rectangular pot with an established root system. I actually placed one on each side of a ten gallon rectangular pot. I want to see if the roots will "tap" into the old root system from the previous plant. I have already seen some signs of new growth and health appearing after one week of transplanting. I also realize vegging into the medium longer may have given it a better opportunity for yield, but my time was limited as this was a quick way to replace the lost plants that were not solid females from seed. The system is a organic fully automated set up with Super soil as the medium and 1K watters . The strain is Citrix. If any one else has tried something similar post your results. Thanks and happy gardening :)

No, the stub in the middle that's chopped off used to be a male or herm. The two plants are female. I'm not trying to pollinate my plants. The experiment is to attempt to use the old root system from the male that's gone to provide more growth and strength for the two females . Also so I don't have to throw out the dirt and start over. Because it's super soil it's got at least 63 days of nutrients left to carry it through.

I don't think people are picking up what I'm putting down. I haven't ever seen a thread on it which is why I started one.
I'm already seeing good growth but I won't know if it joins the previous root ball until I harvest and look to see if they've combined.

the only way to utilize the old root system is by grafting.

That's not the only way, dead roots contain nitrogen. But I get what you are saying.

The other plants will use the decaying root system for food its just what plants do there opportunist mate I use all my root balls back in my trenches and replant my next crop on them . Don't waste a thing if it's carbon ...

I'm talking about tapping into the root system. That could also mean tapping into the nutrient potential I suppose. I was hoping by chance the root system may combine since I just killed the old plant and put a new one in its place. Either way I'm benefiting from the old root system. After I harvest I will look to see what the root system looks like.

No it want buddy the male root system is dead and decaying having no plant material above ground so basically what you have made is a ball of compost which both of the other plants will eat up they will not join the root system together if that's what your hoping . Anyway good luck with it all .

I'm fine with that.
Little organic boost. I'll let you all know how it turns out. Btw those clones got thrown into flower right away which is why I have two in one pot. I was using the old root system and soil to help the new clones any way it could. Grafting sounds interesting. Although I probably didn't have time for that this time. Maybe I will try that down the road.

I know mate I got that but as said it won't happen the living plant will eat the composting roots and use the nutes it converts to grow .

What about grafting with a seed? And how do you do it with a clone or seed. I'm not sure so I'll take a shot in the dark for now. My guess is you take the plant and some how get it to root into a stump of a root system or other part of the plant. By slicing down the stem in a cross pattern possibly? And then use some kind of rooting compound? Im prob way off lol. But it's better than cheating and just going and looking it up right away. Which I prob will do any how. This is a learning experiment for me. I may have to try grafting also just because.

I just looked it up. I've done it on accident when branches fell down. I'm assuming it works the same way. I used tape and things managed to heal themselves. I'm not sure I could pull this off now that I have cut the previous stock so low. But I may try. I wonder if any one has tried it from a seed sprout.

I don't think so from seed anyway you don't know if it's male or female that way I would have to say would be a waste of your time again the Dia of the plant material is what your looking for .

it would be interesting to see what happens if you graft a female indica onto a male sativa root stock.
