Hi, I intend to build a veg room for large plants 10x20 feet or 200 SF. Plants will be vegged for 2 months.
Plants will be topped once per week to help bush them out and keep canopy level and small bottom branches removed. Also will be removing large fan leaves throughout canopy to help with light penetration.
Now for the lighting questions.
Since this is for a veg only room.
(1) what would be the best color spectrum 4k? 5k? 6?
(2) How many watts per SF?
(3) COB distance from canopy?
I look forward to everyone's suggestions. Thank you.
I really suggest using strips instead of cobs but it's up to you.
1. I'd say half 4000k and have 5000k with some ir diodes if possible.
2. Depends on the COBs you're using but roughly 20-25 if this is only veg.
3. Depends on the amount of heat that the COBs produce and plant stage.
I suggest using strips for a few reasons. LEDs run more efficiently when cooler so having many diodes shoved together would need a lot more ventilation to stay efficient. Also, with the diodes so close, the coverage isn't very good which isn't the case with strips.
Here's an example of a strip I would recommend:
Order today, ships today. SI-B8R05128HUS – LED Lighting COBs Engines Modules LED Module series White, Cool Linear Light Strip from Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.. Pricing and Availability on millions of electronic components from Digi-Key Electronics.
I too would suggest LED strip or QB setups over the COB. LED will give you the most even light spread over canopy. COB are setup like older fixture styles. Lots of light blasted from one source.
