Grew in the 90’s (Rockwool drip system) but had to leave the hobby due to job scrutiny. Retiring soon and starting back up.

I’ve got space, I’ve got $ (within some reason). Proposed space is a windowless basement room. I live in a northern climate. In the winter I heat with wood, which does not circulate to this room. So I’m looking at steady temps in this room of mid-upper 40’s F.

ideally I’d get a 4x4 tent, but I keep Struggling with how to maintain steady temps in the tent. I keep coming back to the necessity of heating the whole room, (Especially during flowering/dark cycle) which seems a waste of energy. Are there other options I’m missing?

also, first post, nice site, things have sure changed in the past 20 years!

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

I also grow in a basement in a cooler climate and i don't think i'm steady 40's but i am in the low 50's all winter long.

i made a veg cabinet and a flower cabinet and put them next to each other and draw the veg air through the flower cabinet to use the heat from the veg area to my advantage.

i also run my lights at night when it's colder out, this helps keep them warmer.

one issue i have is with my aerocloner, in the winter i must put a small aquarium heater in the cloner box. this also helps warm up the veg area a little as well.
.
.

I say go for it..... we'll all help you figure it out later if there even is an issue.

picking the strains will help you succeed also!!

WELCOME TO THE FARM!!!! sounds like your problem is an easier fix than having a room too warm with no real easy way to cool it off like a current thread in this forum with a guy growing in an apartment using a tent... reliable space heaters and seed heating mats go a long ways. I also live in a northern climate where my little grow room is routinely in the low 50's to upper 40's at night without heat on and thats how i got by...seed heating mats help keep the soil warm at night to some extent...I also grew peppers and tomatoes in there which like it hot with no problems except the ones i created on my own trying new things.....lottsa reading here and some really talented growers....CHEERS!!!

Maybe try some insulation
And at those night temps you will def get some color in the plants haha
Maybe just using a bit of heating heat it to around 55 you should be ok def use hot lights not LED either way you can make it work if you really want to.

From the bottom of my New England heart: if you want a 4x4 grow, get a 4x8 tent. Leave room for heat, ac, and to get in with your grow for maintenance. The tents hold temp pretty well. You’ll have no trouble while lights are on ( you may want this to be PM when the world is coldest. A small oil filled space heater is safe and inexpensive enough to keep things warm when lights are off.

Maybe try some autoflowers under hid lighting to get you going till you can get your space dialed in for a 12/12 schedule. The hid lights will give you the heat you need. One extraction fan with a speed controller and sum duct and your good to start.

Thx for the welcomes and the feedback. Some good ideas and ultimately you are right, I need to forge ahead and figure out how to deal with it as I go. I’ll update as it happens, thanks again!
