Controlling Sound and Humidity

Sound: got to have a really quiet air exchange system. The grow room is right next to the bed room. My wife says its either her or the sound (or me) that has to go.Right now I have a Vortex 6" that's too noisy for my situation especially full blast. I'm thinking a 10 or 12" with a speed control turned way down might work(low speed high volumn); are there any quieter fans?

Humidity: In my present setup the heat from my adjust a wing keeps the humidity under control. But with the lights off it really jumps as the room cools. I have a dehumidifier and heaters. But of course they wont work very well with fresh air coming in. What is the minimum air exchange at night? Could I turn off the exhaust fan altogether? Maybe add co2 at night only? I'm not prepared to set up a sealed room right now.

What about makeing a muffler, like a box with sound proofing that its hooked to or has to go throw. My room was a bit noisy it was mostly due to having it bolted rite to the wall I sence unhooked it an have it on a dimmer, it works fine and is very quite.

I just tried hanging the vortex from bungie cords. Got rid of a lot of the transmitted vibration noise but still plenty of fan bearing noise plus the air flow noise. The later I can dampen with a muffler but no the bearing noise. Are there any super quiet fans?

your best solution would be to get a 10" or 12" Elicent inline fan (they are the most quiet), reduce the speed with a controller, mount a muffler to it:

and hang it with the bungees. as an extra measure you might mount some soundproofing opposite (and maybe 12" from) where the exhaust of the muffler comes out.

Pap's got the word on your fan noise issue, so I'll just address your humidity issue.

First, don't vent your room at night without a good reason. Run the dehuey at night to reduce the relative humidity. Part of your trouble might be the 'relative' part of relative humidity; as things cool, the RH value rises, even without adding moisture to the air. Why? Because as air cools, its capacity to hold moisture also decreases, which is why the relative humidity figure will climb. So, don't let the room cool vary much. Also, don't run CO2 at night- it's a complete waste if the lights aren't on because daytime is the only time your plants can make use of it.

Humidity: not venting the room at night and lighting on during the day would in itself solve a lot of the noise issues. Ttystikk what would be some of the reasons I might have to vent at night assuming heat is not an issue. I just assumed I had to vent at night to keep my girls happy and healthy.

Wouldn't you know it. Got an Elicent 8" on ebay new and its got a vibration in addition to the expected noise, sounds like a mini helicopter. So going to return it and go with whatever my hydro shop has. A can or another vortex.

I have a 6" that I bought off ebay, think its a Tjerlund. It works great but it's LOUD....so I did this

DIY Sound Insultate your fan and it works really well. I also put a muffler on it and I can hardly tell that the thing is running at all.

lol i gave papa Rep cause I am looking for an inline fan, then I see yhe op gets one and it sucks....lol. I hate eBay personally as well, anyone else have experience with them?

the Elicent is the quietest that you're going to find, although now that i think about it more, i once noticed that there were two models for each size, one was cheaper (and louder) than the other.

i lose the vibration with padding between the fan and the wall, but most hang it from the ceiling for a better solution.

the carbon filter goes on the inlet side and the muffler to the exhaust side of the fan.
