I've only grown autos once so...

My opinion is that autos don't give you enough veg time to top them, except perhaps once at about week 2. I grew four plants, and I tried different training methods (and pot sizes) on them. I didn't see any difference due to pot size (3 or 5 gallon fabric pot, with soil). I did find my topped plants did worse on yield. I let one plant just grow on its own, and another one I only did low stress training on by bending it over and using plant ties to hold down the main bud and grow side shoots. Both those plants had the highest yields.

Autos are nice if you have a short grow tent/area, AND if you do about everything right. But do something wrong and you have no time to recover because you're in flower at week 2 or 3.

For more size, I'd grow in coco coir next time.
