Yes they're always around, it would be unusual not to see them.

There's a whole host of life in there to see fwiw I feed them brewers yeast 0.3g per 10ltr, I don't grow in soil but if I did I'd give it yeast

I've tried growing crystals with mixed results some worked out ok.

Epsom salts under polarized light display birefringence

I tried a few others and had some failures and stuff you know how it goes.

I'm really pleased with this one (Original image) slowing the drying and heat loss helps a lot.

Did anyone spot these guys

At the start of the clip they're feeding at the right of the rotifer, if you zoom in you'll see detritus moving in their vortex.

I've not collected any samples since autumn but i'll be picking up again now spring is here.

Very cool ,love seeing stuff like this. It fascinates me that there's whole ecosystems right under our noses that we usually aren't even aware of. Makes you think, our whole universe could be a mote of dust in a superior beings house. Maybe they are looking at us under a microscope right now thinking " what are those weird little things doing "

Apologies for the time bro, tbh compound microscopes don't do well with 3D surfaces they're engineered to see flat surfaces best, the feild of view is razor thin <50 micron ±
But I do have a stereo microscope 50x

Lol they use a separate left and right objective lenses so when you add the camera you only get half the image and without the 3 dimensionality stereo microscopes are praised for.
