Never grew autos before, have 2 different strains. One is tall & lanky, prob sativa, the 2nd is short and bushy, prob indica. I been snipping some bottom leaves off the tall and lanky one, trying to stimulate growth. She seems to be slower than strain#1 as far as showing pistils, but is taller than strain#2.

You can see major difference between the 2 autos. The node spacing on strain#2 is very close, while strain#1 nodes are spaced far apart. Usually we would say it's a lightning issue, but I think it's a genetic issue being that's it's a different strain.

I should of topped strain#1 but didn't. Instead I removed some bottom leaves to stimulate growth. I tucked some leaves on Strain 2 to expose pistil sites.

For day 29 how do they look to you?
Strain#1 doesn't seem to be handling the nitrogen in the organic soil too well. Notice the tips on strain 1 clawing down. The soil is the same in both 5 gal pots.

They look fine, but you might want to cut back on the N a bit, the first two pics show plants that are clawing from too much N.

Yep, the soil has too much Nitrogen this is why. I haven't added any fertilizers. Damm the fox farms ocean forest soil for giving my plant Nitrogen toxicity!! Never going to use it again.

The tall plant is affected more than the other plant, both in same organic soil. What i did today, gave it some water to flush a little (1/2 gallon), hoping it wont bring more nitrogen from the soil to the roots. BUT it just might. So taking it day by day.

I turned up my lighting because I'm in pre-flower/going into flowering. I also took some leaves off, hoping it will stimulate growth and use up that nitrogen in the soil. I also laid a scrog net and going to feed them through it as they grow. I'm pushing between 400-435 PPFD starting today.

Here is updated pic, my leaves are praying, which i think is a good sign, unless I'm wrong. Took photo through the screen. --- thanks for the reply.

I should of diluted the soil more. I didn't know it was so hot. I used 30% happy frog on top, 70% ocean forest on bottom. i should of used more happy frog and blended it "into" the ocean forest, instead of separating the 2 soils in the pot. ---- so now its like an olive oil / vinegar type separation of soils. Which the plants are now hitting just the ocean forest soil.

I've just read this somewhere and it makes sense. - Thanks Giggles.

Ah... it is as I suspected, being a long time supersoil grower myself. You are seeing the clawing especially at the top and the little bits of burned tips, and equating this to Nitrogen Toxicity, yes?

While your leaves are definitely trying to tell you something, true toxicity looks far worse than this... the plant would look to be terribly ill. What you have are some complaining leaves.

So what are they complaining about and showing little burned tips as a result? Your roots are right now exploring that supersoil at the bottom of your container. There is a lot of very rich stuff down there cooked into that soil, and plenty left over that isn't all the way cooked yet. There are some little zones in there that have pH fluxuations that the exploring roots didn't expect... hot zones of nutrient rich and mineral rich supersoil. When a new root growth tip hits one of these, it can be pruned off and split right there to go around it, or it can adapt and move on... lots of things can be happening down there, and as it does you are going to get reactions in the leaves above that something is not exactly perfect for a young exploring plant. The leaf tips are pointing toward the roots sort of like a cat on a hot tin roof tries really really hard not to touch, or a swimmer sticking a toe into a cold pool and pulling back. If the root tip split into two, that damage will result in the little damaged leaf tips all around the plant.

Basically, this is all normal with a supersoil grow. They call it supersoil for a reason... it is really too hot for the plants to be able to handle by itself, hence the reason we put it only in the bottom third. The plants can handle this because instead of forcing the roots into a medium so rich, we are allowing them to seek the bottom and find this rich soil, and then adapt to being able to live within such strong soil. The reactions you are seeing in the leaves above are telling you that the supersoil is working... and all is well.

Beans came from Fast Buds. They're from a mixed auto pack.

Exactly. Good learning experience with organic soil. Now I know how to use it in the future. You must dilute ocean forest as it's too hot for some strains no matter what stage your grow is in.

My other plant is doing fine. Gave them more water today being that high nitrogen makes things salty and makes the plants absorb more water. Hopefully it won't lockout and will adapt. I'll be adding some potassium & phosphorus in a week or so via flower fuel. It should help.

It seems she's got some new growth which is a good sign and getting taller, already at 20" inches. Hopefully adapting. The other auto is at 18" inches. I think these are going to get big.
