I feel yer frustration,. Time to upgrade, it will help with heat displacement, and you can adjust light to where "you" want itI've searched the web but LEDs seem to have displaced almost anything HPS.
I don't own an Apogee and Photone just doesn't correlate to anything meaningful.
What I am after is PPFD figures for HPS especially 250w versions please
If anyone has one of these ancient relics lying about collecting dust and rust and an Apogee (or similar) can they post something up for 12" and 24" distance from dead centre of the bulb.
Another option would be a pre made chart or even thread showing PPFD numbers.
Spent many hours searching just not finding anything, if you don't it's cool to let this thread slide and die like the now semi redundant sodium technology.
Thanks in advance and a million blessings for anyone who has these almost extinct numbers
Well my last grow was with some LEDs, mars hydro ones not too bad but I can run anything and do reasonable well never a heat issue and except the odd summer heatwave indoors my temps are stable at 20-25c most of the year.I feel yer frustration,. My bad and if I had anything about the 250w hps I would share, I just took it as you are looking for a new light.I see asking a HPS question just generates the answer but an led with you guys....
Not really the answer I was hoping for lolol
Sure, HPS is a tenth of the price of a top spec led and and just so happens I had one lying about after doing an led grow with friends where unfortunately I wasn't the owner of the LEDs to keep for this personal grow. I can make anything yield well even fluorescents. My bad and if I had anything about the 250w hps I would share, I just took it as you are looking for a new light.
Can I ask why the 250W hps are you looking to use it with a led? I have always wanted to try waking the plant up with hps and uv a&b then finding the right time to bring the led up slowly to the par I am looking for.
I can not think of a reason to use hps today unless some hybrid set up exits or you just need the grow up and running asap and heat, cost per gram, and space do not matter. Help me out I am still new to talking about this online and no one I know has used hps in 10 years. Thanks
You can try one of the PPFD phone apps. They aren't perfect, but it can give you a rough estimate. Plug in your light and get some measurements at different locations and heights.Sure, HPS is a tenth of the price of a top spec led and and just so happens I had one lying about after doing an led grow with friends where unfortunately I wasn't the owner of the LEDs to keep for this personal grow. For new growers a lot of the info gives HPS a bad name almost as if it won't work well but we never really had issues using them all those years prior to this current led revolution.
I wouldn't say UV is a deal breaker, not going to add much past normal light spectrum, lots of studies on it. LEDs did break apart the light spectrum better/more so guess we are more in tune with these things at present day.
There was a company or two offering led hid hybrids don't know if they still do stuff like that but some growers did swear running two different lights and their respective spectrums was better than each on their own but due to the efficiency of LEDs I doubt anything more will come from that idea lol.
Then I can put a 600w HPS in a smaller tent than 600w led as they are quite wide and long some more 4x4 foot or needing such size tent when at present I am in a 90x90 or similar.
Personally I enjoy the hps spectrum more than led, it's not actually that orange when viewing the tent so preference for spectrums that also are easier on my eyes with the last led being white and a little overwhelming when I'm chilling in the tent.
All the big illegal grows here useless hps, price of a hundred 600/1000w lights regardless of yield and electricity cost their main factor. They still have a place but if LEDs can get cheaper then I think eventually they will stop making them or at least for growing with anyway.
Long waffle and just wondering what I'm giving each stage so I can compare more to led growers and personal knowledge. For the life of me I couldn't just not finding data for a 250w although there was a small splattering on higher wattages and I'm guessing because the 1000w de is still good plenty on that one.
Next grow definitely led just need to do a few grows to save up the £600-700 for one hopefully with those fancy Samsung LM's and some cool unit to control it along with fans and temps but who knows maybe I just get stuck with this HPS for a year or two, yields pretty well can't complain and I am simple like that.
Oh I was all cool with Photone the app until three different phones read massive difference when placed together at the same distance. Now those are dead to me and it's an Apogee light meter or nothing in the future. Those apps don't even have an edge on a lux meter which really sucks at converting to PPFD.You can try one of the PPFD phone apps. They aren't perfect, but it can give you a rough estimate. Yes I seen those online searching and your right most info has long gone from the web even old threads.Just realized one of the images is a chart for a metal halide, but I guess it makes for a good comparison, hehe.
They still sell well in the UK, little pricey, not in danger of them stopping quite yet.I ran 3 10x10 rooms, each with a 1000w HPS, in Mega domes. Like a huge flashlight. HPS/MH constantly degrade. Just putting that out there. As far as you saying you "want to continue using bulbs" I definitely suggest stocking up on a few, if production of them hasn't stopped it will soon.
Again good luck to you! I'm sorry I was of no help.
Last I checked out suppliers are done buying them. We can barely find incandescent light bulbs nowThey still sell well in the UK, little pricey, not in danger of them stopping quite yet.
The amount of big illegal grows here in the UK at the moment is probably keeping the sodium industry going, big gangs love them not one led in sight when they get busted and shown on the news just rooms or warehouses lined with those orange glowing globes lol. If led wants to stop their production you need to deal with these gangs or import more of that Cali weed lolol.
But yer their number is up one day soon
Every grow shop here still sells them, brand of choice for big illegal gang grows Lumi Black or Omega, first cheap we can send you lots of boxes if your short lolLast I checked out suppliers are done buying them. We can barely find incandescent light bulbs now
Haha, naa. I'm an indoor in the center of the city. I need less heat. Appreciate the offer though.Every grow shop here still sells them, brand of choice for big illegal gang grows Lumi Black or Omega, first cheap we can send you lots of boxes if your short lol
I am using one grow hub fer two different tents. Hopefully LED becomes more available to your budget soon. If you look, you can find a dealHaha, naa. I'm an indoor in the center of the city. I need less heat. Appreciate the offer though.
600w if light is a very inefficient heater of air, I fail to get temperature about ambient air temps. Probably why they work so well for me, I run led the same don't have any real temperature difference in the tent especially since I exchange the air so many times a minute.Haha, naa.
