I got another COB with a heatsink and a potentiometer.
Old frame is stripped, new frame is cut, and new wiring harness is put in. ( I hated the solid 16ga, it was like bending rebar.
Light is up and running.

Don't even know how they are alive after acid burning the roots with my PH learning curve, and a month of light deprivation while vegging. I fell behind in my timeline to buy parts.Sweet grow space ya got kickin now :)
Good morning FARM I HAVE only skimmed through this thread. But I will say I'm excited about the possibility of a DIY LED set up... I have been wanting to switch to LEDs for over a year now. But THE COST per light is still just too high. And in 2 yrs the newest and best light today will be shit compared to what's coming...so... do ya'lls have a material list, est cost etc...some STEP-BY-STEP instructions would be a savior too.
I am noooo electrical guy. I need some help. Please & Thank you.
A cool $500. I know that's not much when you're talking LED is but if I can find one that I can afford that is going to app for form my current 600 watt then I'm going to get that but I'm also going to get a 1000 watt HPS .What's your budget?
I'd like to build one as I've heard it's much cheaper, like I said I'm just starting to dig in on these newer lights. If I was going to buy an led I think it wood be one of the timber redwood 600s with the Cree cobs, pretty nice units for a 4x4.
praise jesus fuck you rock man, I am so into building my own , hard to find parts in Canada where I am , sure am interested any good videos to watch, am learning the LED game and am loving it.........I will figure it out your stuff looks dope broThis guy is the one of if not the top diy guru's there is. He is so generous with help and openness of his idea's. It's literally is the top efficiency of any lighting. Which translates to output. 1.9µmols/w...or for guys stuck on lumens, around 150-160+lm/w...all while in a perfect flowering(and general growth) spectrum for cannabis.
I am building a system pretty much all based on his work and his guidance. It's in the works as we type. Super pumped for it to be completed.
Bringing top quality LED's to the masses.
Thank you as always.
I am looking for a DIY kit to try my hand at making a panel and would like to start in my veg room so if I screw it up it's not a big deal, I have 8 sq ft so referring to your info I Only need 50-100w of LED for my veg room, what would be my best option? Anyone can point me in the right direction I'll be greatful, thanksOne thing KNNA always pointed out is that what LED does best is vegging. During veg you are dealing with a shorter canopy and you can get very rapid growth with very few watts. I use 2-5W/sq ft to veg but I am in no hurry. You could use 10W/ sq ft to veg rapidly.
Since we are dealing with a shorter canopy and less power, COBs might not be the best option for vegging. One of my favorites is the Cree XML-2 4500K. If you run them at 350mA they dissipate 1W each if you run them at 700mA 2W and at 1050mA 3W. There are 88% efficient 300mA drivers available for $3 on eBay and they can run up to 30 LEDs each. You can get one of the most efficient neutral white LEDs in the world (u2 4C bin) for $4.50 mounted on an aluminum star at Fasttech. Another good option is the 5000K Vero 10s which are only $5 on Digikey.
