The shape of it looks right, but the black on it that I see is what worries me a bit. But if it wasn't for that discoloration that I think I see, it would look like a perfectly normal seedling. Not sure if that color can possibly be a genetic thing this early on, but whenever I've seen blackish colors so far it's not good.

That black/deep purple color is what worries me as well, the strain is called Strawberry Cough, and based on images of it, it doesn't have either of those colors on it.

Worst-case scenario, how do you think I should handle it? Do I let it ride or start taking precautions?

Well, do you have more seeds to go with? If so I would consider tossing that one and starting a new grow BUT only if you can come up with ideas on what happened to make this one turn out that way? You don't want to toss that one and then make the same exact mistake. I've seen too many seedlings go right to think this just happened. If you don't change your method then you will just repeat this probably and in that case might as well finish this one.

I think it could be sunburned, I did set this outside in the sun too soon and for too long. It's the only thing I can think of. I do have more seeds though, I may just wait another week or so and if it gets worse I'll start over.

I just did a quick Google search on that stuff and so far it's not looking good. Have you ever heard of FoxFarm products? If so how come you don't use that? Because you don't want to buy it online or something?

It might have got a little dried on the edges from heat but it should still do just fine if you can keep it from getting that hot again !! Tough little plants I wouldn’t worry a bit

Could you explain whats not good about it? I have not heard of foxfarm, and yes, I wanted to stay away from ordering online its more expensive bc of weight and I wanted something more readily available locally.

Well, what I mean by that is that I did a Google search for "Nearsource Organics Cannabis" and the first red flag was a lack of relevant results supporting the idea that this stuff is much use for growing Cannabis. Sure, that doesn't mean much in itself to most people, but my instincts pay attention to that.

But, so I do see Reddit as a very valuable resource for people like us. There's two links that I happened to click on. This was one of them which didn't have many posts, but the ones that are in there aren't positive. Again, not much info to go off, but my instincts are getting stronger to avoid it.

Then I looked at this one and it was even more critical of that product.

I mean, even if the couple links I posted were neutral or positive, I still wouldn't give it a chance just because Foxfarm is so much more reputable, but since you're asking those posts along with your thread are anecdotal evidence that would make me actually avoid the product unless it was like literally the only thing available and even then I wouldn't have high hopes.

got it, the review were majority fine on the homedepot web site, and theres always going to be someone not satisfied. I'll look at the foxfarm site. I intend to make a composting bin here eventually to use and not have to buy soil anymore so i guess i could cry once buy once for now with the foxfarm stuff lol.

The black is concerning but the first set of true leaves don't look right either, are you over watering?

every couple of days I water, I came out this morning and checked on it and the true leaves have grown and the black hasn't spread. I believe the black is from me ignorantly putting it in direct sun and it burned. I'm out here in SoCal and the day I did that it was probably in the 90s (lesson learned). I'll post an updated picture here sometime today.

It has no drainage leading to severe over watering issues.
